## Description

About Samsung Austin Semiconductor Samsung is a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, founded on the belief that the pursuit of excellence creates a better world. At Samsung Austin Semiconductor, we are Innovating Today to Power the Devices of Tomorrow. Come innovate with us! Position Summary An Equipment Installation Engineer operates at the intersection of mechanical engineering, electrical work, and project management. They are responsible for taking a piece of machinery from a shipping crate to a fully operational state in a production environment. Role and Responsibilities Here's What You'll Be Responsible For: Technical Proficiency in Schematics & Blueprints Before a single bolt is turned, an installation engineer must be able to "read" the machine. This involves: Mechanical Drawings: Understanding CAD drawings and assembly diagrams to ensure precise physical placement. Electrical Schematics: Reading wiring diagrams to manage power distribution and signal routing. P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams): For equipment involving fluids, gases, or vacuum systems, understanding the flow and control logic is critical. Electromechanical Troubleshooting Installation rarely goes perfectly. The ability to diagnose why a machine isn't powering up or why a motor is vibrating is vital. Electrical Testing: Proficiency with multimeters, oscilloscopes, and signal generators. Mechanical Alignment: Skill in using precision leveling tools, laser alignment, and torque wrenches to ensure the machine is stable and within tolerance. PLC & Control Logic: Basic knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) to verify that the software is communicating correctly with the hardware. Rigging and Material Handling Equipment is often heavy, oversized, and fragile. An installation engineer must know how to move these assets safely. Rigging Knowledge: Understanding load weights, center of gravity, and the proper use of hoists, cranes, and slings. Safety Protocols: Mastery of LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) procedures to ensure the environment is safe for installation. Facility Coordination: Planning the "path of travel" from the loading dock to the cleanroom or factory floor. Commissioning and Validation Installing the machine is only half the job; proving it works is the other half. SAT: Conducting Site Acceptance Tests to ensure the equipment meets the purchase specifications. Calibration: Setting precise parameters and tolerances to ensure the equipment produces consistent results. Performance Qualification: Running test cycles to verify the machine hits the required throughput or quality metrics. Project & Time Management Installation engineers usually work against a strict deadline where every hour the machine isn't running costs the company money. Critical Path Analysis: Knowing which tasks must happen first Vendor Management: Coordinating with third-party contractors, electricians, and the equipment manufacturer’s own technicians. Documentation: Maintaining detailed installation logs and "as-built" drawings for future maintenance. Adaptability and Field Problem-Solving In the field, "the drawing says X, but the wall is Y." The ability to pivot is what separates a good engineer from a great one. Improvisation: Finding safe, engineered workarounds when site conditions differ from the original plans. Interdisciplinary Communication: Being able to speak "electrician," "operator," and "corporate executive" to ensure everyone is aligned on the installation progress. Skills and Qualifications Here's What You'll Need: Possess a foundational understanding of engineering principles. Minimum: A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related field. Proficiency in Technical Documentation An engineer cannot perform the role if they cannot interpret the "instructions" for the machine. Minimum: Demonstrated ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, electrical schematics, and
