Our Research, Design and Development teams combine design, engineering and manufacturing expertise to take products from early concept through to production. About the role As a Design Engineer, Category, you will support the design, development and delivery of innovative Oral Care products. Combining hands-on engineering with ownership of defined product areas and technical work packages, you will work from concept generation and prototyping through detailed design, verification, validation, manufacturing readiness and production. You will contribute to the development of Oral Care products within a regulated framework and a Quality Management System accredited to meet ISO 13485. You will apply disciplined design controls and maintain objective, traceable evidence throughout development, with an appreciation of how medical device classification influences regulatory requirements, risk management, verification, validation and technical documentation. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary Dyson teams, Partners, suppliers and manufacturing sites across Asia. Frequent regional travel is required to support design reviews, technical problem-solving, validation and key manufacturing milestones. Key responsibilities · Develop products, systems and features from concept through design, validation, industrialisation and production. · Translate user, commercial and technical needs into clear requirements, specifications and engineering deliverables. · Take ownership of defined systems, assemblies, product features or technical work packages. · Create and evaluate concepts through prototyping, analysis, testing and structured problem-solving. · Balance performance, user experience, quality, safety, reliability, cost, manufacturability and timing. · Identify technical risks, investigate failures and support effective root-cause resolution. · Participate in design reviews, technical reviews, prototype builds and project milestone assessments. · Coordinate activities, risks, decisions and deliverables across multidisciplinary and geographically distributed teams. · Communicate technical information and project progress clearly to engineering, project and senior stakeholders. Oral Care focus · Develop Oral Care products in accordance with the Quality Management System and applicable ISO 13485-aligned design and development controls. · Understand the applicable medical device classification and translate the resulting regulatory requirements into product requirements, development plans, verification and validation activities, and technical evidence. · Provide engineering input to clinical evaluation and clinical trial activities, including test article readiness, technical documentation, issue investigation and implementation of resulting design actions, in collaboration with quality, regulatory and clinical specialists. · Embed safety throughout the design process by identifying hazards, assessing and controlling risks, defining safety requirements, and generating traceable evidence that controls are effective. · Manage engineering changes through formal change-control processes, including documented impact assessment, cross-functional review and approval, implementation, verification and closure. · Create, review and maintain accurate, complete and traceable design records, specifications, test evidence, decisions and change documentation in accordance with document-control and retention requirements.
