The Impact You’ll Make in this Role As a Digital Science Development Specialist , you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. The Digital Science Development Specialist identifies, develops, and implements digital science capabilities to accelerate product and technology development across AAD laboratories. Acting as the technical owner of the Digital Lab pilot, this role connects scientists, product developers, modeling resources, digital teams, and data specialists to translate R&D challenges into scalable data-driven solutions. The role leads initiatives in predictive modeling, data-driven experimentation, lab automation, and AI-enabled workflows-from opportunity identification through implementation-turning laboratory data into actionable insights that improve learning, increase R&D efficiency, and accelerate innovation across multiple AAD technology platforms. Here, you will make an impact by: Identifying and prioritizing digital science opportunities that accelerate innovation and improve laboratory productivity. Partnering with product developers, laboratory scientists, and SMEs to translate technical challenges into digital and data-driven solutions. Collaborating with Corporate Research Laboratory modeling teams to deploy predictive modeling, simulation, machine learning, and advanced analytics capabilities. Leading pilot projects involving AI, digital science, and data-driven experimentation. Defining laboratory data requirements and partnering with digital and data teams to improve data quality, accessibility, and usability. Supporting the development and implementation of predictive models for formulation, process, application, and performance-related challenges. Driving adoption of digital tools, workflows, and best practices across laboratory organizations. Evaluating emerging technologies and identifying opportunities to apply digital capabilities to product and technology development. Measuring and communicating business impact from digital science initiatives. Contributing to the long-term Digital Lab roadmap and capability development strategy. Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or related technical field (completed and verified prior to start) Seven (7) years of experience working across multidisciplinary R&D, modeling, digital, and/or business teams, with hands-on experience in several of the following areas: modeling and simulation, DOE, statistical analysis, data analytics, predictive modeling, AI, machine learning, in a private, public, government or military environment. Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include: Master's or Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or related technical field. Experience in product development, R&D, digital transformation, or laboratory automation. Ability to translate scientific and technical challenges into practical digital solutions.
