Director, Tax Accounting The position: The Director, Tax Accounting is a leadership role which is responsible for managing the global tax provisioning, financial statement reporting, and forecasting operations of Capital One and its acquisitions and divestitures. As a strategic advisor to senior tax leadership, you will directly manage Company's effective tax rate and deferred tax planning, as well as partnering to evaluate the tax implications of strategic corporate acquisitions, and forecast tax credit capacities. Reporting to: Senior Director - Tax Accounting and Capital Planning Key Responsibilities can include: Financial Statement & Regulatory Reporting, Forecasting Leading the team that is responsible for: Global Tax Provision: Manage the preparation and review of the global corporate income tax provision (ASC740) for quarterly and annual financial statements SEC & Regulatory Compliance: Lead all tax-related disclosures in SEC filings (10-K, 10-Q), ensuring absolute compliance, transparency, and technical accuracy and act as the main point of contact for internal and external SEC reporting stakeholders. Rate & Deferred Tax Management: Manage the company's consolidated Effective Tax Rate (ETR) and global deferred tax assets and liabilities. Financial Outlooks: Support the tax forecasting processes to provide senior executive leadership with predictable, data-driven insights into ETR, DTA and credit capacity projection to optimize cash flow and enable balance sheet growth Strategic Advisory & Team Leadership: Manage and develop a team of 3 tax professionals, foster a collaborative and inclusive environment, develop team structures that meet future business needs, and invest in associate development beyond the day to day Internal Controls: Maintain a well-managed internal control environment over financial reporting for income taxes, ensuring strict compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) standards and company policy This role is hybrid meaning associates spend 3 days per week in-person at one of our offices listed on this job posting. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or other quantitative discipline, or military experience Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation currently active or previously achieved and currently inactive At least 7 years of progressive corporate tax experience within a public corporation or an accounting firm At least 3 years in a dedicated people-management capacity leading teams Preferred Qualifications Master’s in Taxation (MT), MBA, or JD/LLM Expert-level knowledge of accounting for income taxes under US Mastery of ASC 740 GAAP and SEC reporting regulations Familiarity with IFRS M&A Tax Accounting: Strong foundation in the tax accounting nuances of business combinations, purchase price allocations, and post-merger integration Strategic Tax Modeling: Exceptional quantitative skills to model complex financial outcomes, tax law shifts, and multi-year corporate outlooks Tax Technology Acumen: Familiarity with enterprise tax provisioning software (e.g., Corptax, ONESOURCE) and data tools (e.g., Alteryx, Power BI) to support digital transformation At this time, Capital One will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
