## Description

Amazon Web Services is seeking a Front End Power Electronics Engineer to design the medium-voltage AC/DC front-end stage of the SST, including active-front-end rectification, PFC/THD performance and high-voltage SiC power devices. AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help. As a Front End Power Electronics Engineer you will own the AC/DC front end: Designing the MV active-front-end for 13.8/34.5 kVac interface conditions with PFC/THD targets abd delivering a defined stage with limited guidance. You will solve rectifier topology, switching-strategy and 1700–3300 V SiC device-stress problems under grid conditions and power-quality limits. You will coordinate gate-drive, protection and layout with adjacent teams and substantiate the design via simulation-to-measurement correlation. About AIS AWS Infrastructure Services (AIS) owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion. Key job responsibilities AC/DC design: - Design MV rectifier and active-front-end architectures for 13.8 kVac and 34.5 kVac MVAC interface conditions aligned to SST system; the 5–10 MW platform is a development vehicle toward a scalable architecture. - Develop and optimize power-factor correction and total harmonic distortion performance. Evaluate rectifier topology, switching strategy and power-stage operating limits. - Support system integration with the isolated DC/DC stage. Power semiconductor design: - Select and evaluate high-voltage SiC components in the 1700–3300 V class identified in the organization plan. - Assess switching losses, thermal stress, voltage/current margins and device reliability. - Coordinate gate-drive, protection and layout requirements with associated engineering teams. Modeling & validation: - Develop and use simulation models to evaluate steady-state and transient performance. - Support prototype bring-up and laboratory validation. - Correlate simulation with measurements and feed results into design iterations. SST System Alignment: - Design the MVAC front end around the system specification interface configurations: 13.8 kVac ±10% and 34.5 kVac ±10%, 3-phase 3-wire + PE, 57–63 Hz with up to 5 Hz/s ROCOF. - Address MV power factor, IEEE 519 / IEC 61800-3 Category C4 / IEC 61000-6-2/-6-4 harmonic and EMC requirements, MV grounding, transient protection, filtering, BIL and short-circuit capability. - Coordinate MVAC load acceptance/rejection and ride-through behavior with system controls and ESS. About the team We are AWS Infrastructure Services, the team that designs, plans, delivers, and operates all AWS global infrastructure. We're the people who keep the cloud
