We are seeking Full-stack Software Engineers (SQL Server DBA) who are passionate about leveraging cutting-edge open source frameworks and emerging technologies. In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of driving a major transformation across Capital One. What You’ll Do: Serve as a domain expert and advisor on database architecture, infrastructure design, security posture, and overall data management strategy. Establish, document, and enforce database operational best practices, change control standards, and process improvements across the DBA team. Act as the escalation point for high-severity database incidents, architectural risks, and security vulnerabilities, driving swift resolution and root-cause analysis. Upskill and mentor junior and mid-level DBAs to cultivate technical expertise and foster a culture of continuous learning. Ensure strict adherence to enterprise risk management, SOX, and PCI compliance requirements and change management frameworks. Architect and tune large-scale, mission-critical OLTP database environments to maintain high throughput and low latency. Design, deploy, and maintain robust high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) solutions utilizing Always-On Availability Groups, Replication, and continuous recovery strategies. Lead end-to-end planning and execution for large-scale database patching, version upgrades, backups, restores, and decommissioning strategies. Lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers with deep experience in distributed microservices, and full stack systems to create solutions that help meet regulatory needs for the company Share your passion for staying on top of tech trends, experimenting with and learning new technologies, participating in internal & external technology communities, mentoring other members of the engineering community Collaborate with digital product managers, and deliver robust cloud-based solutions that drive powerful experiences to help millions of Americans achieve financial empowerment Utilize programming languages like Java, Scala, Python, Go, Node.js, JavaScript and TypeScript, Open Source RDBMS and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of AWS tools and services Provide technical leadership and direction across Agile teams, setting standards for design, development, and operational excellence Partner with architects to define service boundaries, integration patterns, and reusable frameworks Proactively identify areas for improvement, implementing targeted refactoring and contributing to efforts that reduce technical debt and enhance system performance Influence long-term technology strategy through evaluation of emerging tools and practices in a ‘you build it, you own it’ environment Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science or a related quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Engineering) At least 4 years of experience in software engineering (Internship experience does not apply) At least 2 years of experience with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), cloud-based productivity tools, or virtualization technologies Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field Experience with SQL Server database administration, high-volume performance tuning, and database architecture.
