## Description

Role overview ZAWYA is seeking a Managing Editor, reporting directly into the Editor of the Capital Markets Group at LSEG, the home of preeminent capital markets news services including IFR, LPC and PFI. He/she will oversee the strategic direction of ZAWYA, managing a team of editors and writers responsible for providing actionable insights covering Middle East and North Africa primary capital markets across multi-platform digital and feed products while also interacting with commercial counterparts both inside and outside of the organisation. As the face of ZAWYA, the Managing Editor will be a key driver of new initiatives, playing a crucial role in opening doors and establishing contacts and relationships with deal makers, bankers and policy makers to drive intelligence. An understanding of these audiences and the ways in which they interact with financial content – in the form of both news and data – to inform dealmaking and other activities is therefore essential. The successful candidate will also be able to manage daily news at a fast pace, ensuring that developments most relevant to ZAWYA readers are included and developed in our coverage. As part of this remit, he/she will also define the long-term editorial direction of ZAWYA, identifying and executing on bold new coverage in the MENA region that will expand our footprint in northern Africa and in key topics such as Islamic Finance and local currency funding. Finally, he/she will be capable of providing leadership and quality control and must have a strong set of digital, audience/analytical and multimedia skills needed to support a modern newsroom operating out of multiple locations. Responsibilities Drive and develop ZAWYA’s content strategy to meet the needs of financial markets professionals, striking the right balance between breaking news with the development of enterprise/feature-level content not available elsewhere Define the long-term strategic direction and editorial voice of Zawya to be a leading source of accurate actionable insights in Middle East and North African primary capital markets Lead a ground-up rebuild of the ZAWYA editorial team, restructuring headcount and coverage model to sharpen focus on primary capital markets (ECM, DCM, loans, Islamic finance/Sukuk, project finance) across MENA, rather than general regional business news Reorganise the newsroom footprint around Cairo and Dubai as the two primary hubs, aligning staffing, sourcing networks and editorial cadence to these markets while maintaining coverage reach across the wider MENA region Maintain oversight of hiring, performance management and day-to-day operations within the newsroom Ensure editorial standards are maintained across all platforms Manage the editorial budget Own the connective strategy between ZAWYA editorial output and LSEG's broader D&A ecosystem (Workspace, feeds, IFR/LPC/PFI), ensuring content is structured and tagged for downstream machine-readability, not just published as prose Collaborate with colleagues within Commercial and Product on a regular basis Maintain and negotiate commercial arrangements with third-party content providers Establish rights/licensing standards for ZAWYA's proprietary content, including how it may be syndicated, ingested by third parties, or used in AI/GenAI contexts, in coordination with LSEG's group licensing policy Maintain accountability for competitive positioning against other MENA financial media using this to sharpen editorial priorities Contribute to events and thought leadership initiatives within the portfolio Experience/Skills Native-level mastery of English and Arabic language Demonstrable knowledge of global and regional capital markets Excellent writing and editing skills Strong knowledge of journalistic standards, including sourcing, verification, attribution, corrections and media ethics Deep sourcing network specifically in primary capital markets dealmaking circles (issuers, bookrunners, arrangers, regulators) across
