This internship is specifically designed for individuals working towards a PhD who are developing proficiency in their field. This is a 12-week paid internship, designed to provide you with a solid foundation for future career growth. The internship will take place from May (potentially early June) to August of 2027. The Opportunity: Procter & Gamble is looking for a PhD student Intern to advance imaging technologies for research and product evaluation. You will design, prototype, and test imaging hardware and capture workflows that improve image quality, measurement repeatability, and quantitative assessment. Your work will combine imaging science, engineering, automation, and image analysis to support stronger product performance and higher quality before-and-after imaging across key programs. The Ideal Candidate Has: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a practical approach to complex technical challenges. Hands-on research experience and the ability to independently plan, execute, and troubleshoot experiments. Interest in developing imaging technologies that integrate hardware, software, automation, and quantitative analysis. Strong attention to detail when evaluating experimental data. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a disciplined approach to documenting and explaining technical work. Key Responsibilities: Design and prototype imaging hardware and supporting software. Integrate and evaluate components that impact image capture. Develop and apply image-processing and image-analysis methods. Design and conduct experiments to evaluate image quality and overall system performance. Analyze images and experimental data using different scientific computing tools. Identify technical challenges, recommend improvements, and document system designs, experimental methods, results, and key learnings. Communicate findings to multidisciplinary partners and deliver a working prototype, validated workflow, or quantitative evidence of improved performance. Job Qualifications Required Qualifications: Currently pursuing a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Imaging Science, Applied Physics, or a closely related quantitative engineering or scientific discipline. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Experience conducting independent research and communicating technical results. Hands-on experience with experimental research, engineering development, computational methods, or hardware prototyping. Experience using Python, MATLAB, or a similar scientific programming environment for data analysis, algorithm development, or experimental research. Available to work a 12-week internship from May/early June to August in the summer of 2027. It has the expectation to be in the office 4-5 days per week at our Mason Business & Innovation Center location. Preferred Qualifications: Experience designing, integrating, calibrating, or testing imaging systems. Experience with optics, illumination, camera systems, automated positioning or motion-control hardware, and different imaging techniques.
