Imagine turning a scattered set of talent tools into a single, AI-native platform, and leading the engineering effort that makes it real. We are hiring a Software Development Manager in Bellevue to do exactly that. As a technical leader, you will stay hands-on while defining and measuring a new way of working built around the agentic development life cycle. Day to day, you will work with your SDEs and steer agents to build the product experience for Talent Evaluation at Amazon. That means connecting multiple product domains, coordinating across engineering teams and several VP-level organizations, and owning the end-to-end experience for corporate Amazonians as they navigate their growth and development at Amazon. This is not a typical people management role. You should be excited to experiment with the agentic development life cycle, go beyond vibe coding, introduce full automation, and build layers of verification that create trustworthy and responsible AI systems. You know how to help engineers navigate competing priorities and set clear expectations with customers, and you are well versed in distributed systems architecture and the software development life cycle. Given the interdisciplinary nature and breadth of this space, the ideal candidate will coordinate across many internal and external teams and give senior leaders clear visibility through strong written and verbal communication. Beyond that, we are drawn to people who learn quickly, think big, execute both strategically and tactically, and motivate and mentor a team to deliver business value on time. They bring a creative, startup mindset and feel energized by new and ambiguous challenges. Basic qualifications - 3+ years of engineering team management experience - 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience - 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience - 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience - Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations - Experience partnering with product or program management teams Preferred qualifications - Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy - Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.
