## Description

ABOUT EDGE At EDGE bold ideas are engineered into technologies that protect, improve and save lives. Headquartered in the United Arab Emirates, EDGE is a leading advanced technology group working at the forefront of defence and emerging technologies. Spanning more than 35 specialised companies and multiple centres of excellence, we are purpose-built to move fast. Free from heavy legacy processes, we give our people the autonomy, accountability, and agility to bring breakthrough technologies from concept to reality. Based in Abu Dhabi, a globally connected hub at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, EDGE is home to a truly multicultural community where bold ideas thrive, and the future is shaped. Together, we are shaping the future. ABOUT THE ROLE The Senior Power Electronics Hardware Design Engineer (Grade 7) is responsible for the design, development, integration, and qualification of high-power electronic hardware used in motor drives, motor generator units, starter/generator systems, alternators, and other electrically driven propulsion and control applications. This role focuses on the complete hardware lifecycle of power conversion systems, from architecture definition and component selection through schematic design, simulation, PCB layout, thermal analysis, prototype bring-up, integration, and environmental qualification. The engineer will work on inverter, rectifier, bridge, gate-drive, protection, sensing, isolation, magnetics, DC-link, and EMI-filter circuits supporting PMSM, BLDC, and brushed DC machines. The position requires strong hands-on experience in high-voltage and high-current power electronics , including the selection and application of MOSFET, IGBT, SiC, and GaN devices, switching and conduction loss calculations, thermal derating, heatsink and cooling design, and protection against short-circuit, overcurrent, and other abnormal operating conditions. RESPONSIBILITIES Develop power electronics architectures for motor drive and motor generator units (MGU). Design inverter, rectifier, and bridge stages for PMSM, BLDC, and brushed DC (BDC) machines. Design gate driver, protection, and isolation circuits for high-power switching stages. Design starter/generator and alternator power conversion, rectification, and regulation circuits. Select power semiconductors (MOSFET, IGBT, SiC/GaN) and perform switching/conduction loss and derating analysis. Design magnetics (inductors, transformers, current sensing) and DC-link/EMI filter stages. Perform thermal design, heatsink sizing, and cooling analysis for power circuits. Design current/voltage sensing, isolation, and feedback circuits for closed-loop control. Perform schematic design and high-current / high-voltage PCB layout activities. Perform simulation and analysis (LTspice, PLECS, PSIM, Simulink) and design verification. Design hardware considering EMC/EMI and environmental qualification requirements. Plan and support power stage bring-up, integration, and qualification tests. Work in coordination with system, software, electrical machine, test, and certification teams. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related field. Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in power electronics and motor drive hardware design. Strong knowledge of switching converter topologies (buck, boost, flyback, half/full bridge, three-phase inverter). Strong knowledge of electrical machines such as alternators, generators, starters, PMSM, BLDC, and BDC motors. Experience with gate driver design, dead-time management, and short-circuit/overcurrent protection. Experience with power semiconductor selection, loss calculation, and thermal derating. Experience with magnetics design and high-current PCB layout practices. Experience with schematic design and PCB layout tools such as Altium Designer, Mentor PADS, etc. Experience with power electronics simulation tools such as LTspice, PLECS, PSIM, or Simulink.
