## Description

Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite broadband network. Its mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet to customers and communities around the world, and we’ve designed the system with the capacity, flexibility, and performance to serve a wide range of customers, from individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. Satellite development moves fast, and the labs that support it never have enough hands for every request. The Amazon Leo Development Operations (DevOps) team runs the labs where spacecraft hardware is built, tested, and qualified, and the right call on any given day depends on knowing exactly what work is waiting, who can do it, and which equipment is ready. Today that picture is assembled by hand. We are looking for a Systems Development Engineer to build the systems that replace it. You will own the software that connects our lab personnel, lab spaces, and lab equipment, and you will turn scattered scheduling, ticketing, and equipment data into clear, trusted views of capacity and demand. Our lab engineers and technicians are not software developers, so what you build has to be intuitive enough that they want to use it. Over time, the same tools will show which equipment is available and ready, so planning covers people, spaces, and equipment together. Your work will help lab leadership make faster priority calls and keep our design-team customers supported on the most urgent, actionable work. Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum. Key job responsibilities • Own the software systems that interface with lab personnel, lab spaces, and lab equipment, from design through operation • Design and build tools and dashboards that visualize lab personnel and equipment capacity against design-team demand • Integrate data from headcount and scheduling, customer priority input, Jira work ticketing, engineer work estimates, equipment maintenance, and equipment data logging into a consistent backend data model • Build and maintain APIs that connect Jira, our in-house tools, and systems owned by other teams • Design interfaces that non-software users can pick up without training, and work directly with lab engineers and lab management to iterate on them • Bring lab equipment into the same tools, surfacing equipment status and availability so that people can visualize it and plan their work around it • Ensure test and equipment data is stored securely, kept clean, and remains traceable and usable • Navigate Amazon security reviews, data classification, and compliance requirements for all systems you build and operate • Start with clear, reliable visualizations of current capacity and demand, and evolve them into forecasting and planning tools • Partner with equipment-focused engineers and teams across the organization to converge lab personnel and lab equipment tooling into a single system over time • Operate what you build: write documentation and runbooks, monitor system health, and drive permanent fixes when things break A day in the life You will spend your time between the lab floor and the codebase. One day you might sit with a lab engineer to watch how they report work estimates, then turn that into a simpler input form. Another day you might design the data model that joins ticket status changes with technician schedules, or connect equipment status and availability into the same tools so engineers can see what is ready and plan their work around it. You might also work through a security review for a new integration. You will work closely with lab management, who rely on your tools to decide where to point limited people, and with the engineers who maintain our equipment systems. About
