About the role

Point is seeking an experienced Associate General Counsel to lead litigation strategy across the company's home equity investment (HEI) platform and other consumer finance products. This is the senior-most litigation position within Point's legal department, reporting to the Deputy General Counsel with direct access to the General Counsel and senior leadership on high-priority matters.

The Associate General Counsel, Litigation will own Point's litigation portfolio end-to-end: managing outside counsel and litigation budgets, setting case strategy, responding to civil and regulatory subpoenas and investigative demands, and coordinating with compliance and business partners to align litigation positions with regulatory expectations. The ideal candidate brings deep defense-side experience in consumer finance litigation, is comfortable managing a high-volume, fast-moving docket, and exercises sound judgment on complex, multi-jurisdictional matters.

 

Your responsibilities

  • Manage an assigned portfolio of consumer financial services litigation, including lawsuits, arbitrations, and class actions.
  • Respond to and manage civil and regulatory subpoenas, civil investigative demands, and related inquiries, including and issuing and maintaining data holds to preserve relevant records. custodian coordination and rolling productions.
  • Set and adjust litigation strategy for matters involving servicing, payments, credit reporting, title insurance, collections, other consumer financial products, and employment matters.
  • Serve as Point's primary point of contact for outside counsel, directing case strategy, negotiating and managing litigation budgets, and monitoring performance against internal expectations.
  • Organize the pre-litigation intake process, including triaging and responding to demand letters and pre-suit claims, and setting response posture in coordination with outside counsel.
  • Perform early case assessments to evaluate regulatory exposure, litigation risk, and potential precedent or downstream impact across the portfolio.
  • Support arbitration strategy, including motions to compel arbitration and enforcement of arbitration provisions.
  • Coordinate with compliance and business partners to align litigation positions with regulatory expectations and internal policies.
  • Lead internal fact investigations and prepare witnesses as needed to support litigation and regulatory matters.
  • Provide litigation-risk input on contract terms and dispute-resolution provisions.
  • Track litigation outcomes and trends across the docket (including matters involving other industry participants) to identify risk patterns and improvement opportunities, and report on litigation status, risk exposure, and legal spend to senior management. 

 

About you

  • J.D. and active bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction (California preferred); must be eligible for in-house practice in your state of domicile.
  • 5+ years of litigation experience involving consumer finance (civil or criminal, state or federal), on the defense side; experience with class action defense strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to and manage civil and regulatory subpoenas and investigations.
  • Experience directing outside counsel and managing litigation budgets across a multi-matter portfolio.
  • Familiarity with consumer protection and lending statutes (e.g., TILA/Regulation Z, HOEPA, FCRA, FDCPA, RESPA/Reg X, UDAAP and state UDAP laws) and financial services products.
  • Preferred experience includes:
    • High-volume consumer claims, arbitration practice, and/or class actions.
    • Mortgage servicing, foreclosure, or bankruptcy-adjacent litigation.
    • Litigation defense at a large law firm.
    • Federal clerkship.
    • Leveraging legal AI tools in a litigation environment.

 

Compensation at Point will be determined by skills, experience, and geographic location. Point has identified the expected annual base salary for this role at this level based on the market by tiers (Region | Location | Market Salary):

  • Tier 1 | San Francisco Bay Area, New York, and Seattle | $211,850 - $234,150
  • Tier 2 | Austin, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, Portland, Sacramento, San Diego, Santa Barbara & Washington DC | $190,000 - $210,000
  • Tier 3 | All other US metro areas | $176,700 - $195,300

This does not include any other potential components of the compensation package, including equity, benefits, and perks outlined above. At the launch of each position, we benchmark compensation to the appropriate role and level utilizing competitive compensation data from various data sources as references. At the offer stage, we use the signal we received from our interviews, coupled with your experience, location, and other job-related factors, to determine final compensation.

 

Location Requirement: This is a remote position. However, candidates must reside in one of Point’s states of operation: AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, FL, GA, IL, KS, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, NC, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WI.
