Analytical Science Intern supporting laboratory methods, automation, and troubleshooting within the MSAT team at Sanofi.
- Location: Waterford
- Start date: January/February 2027
- Duration: 6-8 months
- Work Model: Onsite
About the job
As Analytical Science Intern, you’ll join our Manufacturing Science, Analytics and Technology (MSAT) team in Waterford and gain hands-on experience in a laboratory environment where science meets innovation, automation and digital technology.
This internship is designed to give you the opportunity to contribute to a meaningful scientific project rather than simply observe or support day-to-day activities. Depending on your academic background, interests and the projects available within the team, you could work in areas such as analytical method development and troubleshooting, laboratory automation, chromatography or capillary electrophoresis.
You’ll receive the training and support you need to get started and will work alongside experienced scientists who will help you build your technical knowledge, develop your problem-solving skills and understand how analytical science is applied within the biopharmaceutical industry.
If you enjoy understanding how things work, solving scientific problems and exploring how technology can make laboratory processes smarter and more efficient, this could be a great opportunity to put your studies into practice.
Ready to grow your skills while helping shape the future of healthcare? At Sanofi, you’ll be empowered to learn, ask questions, and bring your ideas to life – all while supported by inspiring mentors and collaborative teams.
Main responsibilities
- Contribute to a defined analytical science project aligned with your academic interests and the team’s current project portfolio.
- Support the development, improvement and troubleshooting of analytical laboratory methods.
- Gain hands-on exposure to analytical techniques which may include HPLC, capillary electrophoresis and other laboratory technologies, depending on the project assigned.
- Explore how automation and digital tools can improve laboratory processes, including opportunities to work with robotic or automated sample-preparation systems.
- Help investigate scientific challenges, evaluate results and contribute ideas to potential solutions.
- Work closely with scientists and other team members, sharing progress, observations and learnings throughout your project.
- Follow laboratory procedures and safety requirements while developing your understanding of safe and responsible working practices in a biopharmaceutical environment.
About you
To excel in this role you will need to have:
- Be a current university student studying Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology or a related scientific discipline, and be required to return to university to continue your studies after completing the internship.
- Have an interest in analytical science and applying your academic knowledge within a practical laboratory environment.
- Be curious about new technologies, digitalisation and laboratory automation and open to learning new systems and techniques.
- Bring a logical, structured and patient approach to problem solving, with the curiosity to understand why things work the way they do.
- Be comfortable working collaboratively, communicating with others and contributing as part of a laboratory team.
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to laboratory safety and willingness to follow required procedures and training.
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently, take ownership of assigned responsibilities, and show initiative in identifying and completing tasks
It would be a plus if you have
- Previous academic or practical exposure to areas such as HPLC/UPLC, capillary electrophoresis, dot blot, SDS Page, analytical method development, laboratory automation, robotics or digital laboratory tools would be beneficial, but is not essential.
- If your university project, final-year project or other academic work involves one of these areas, we’d be especially interested in hearing how your interests could connect with the work of our team.
