ABOUT THE ROLE:

The carpentry role acts as a key support system for all phases and disciplines of SpaceXAI data center construction. By building forms, platforms, railings, and related structures, SpaceXAI carpenters support the full construction team’s needs across civil, concrete, plumbing, electrical, and related disciplines.

As a Construction Carpenter, you will layout, cut, assemble, and turn over the temporary and permanent structures that keep the Memphis/Southaven supercomputer campus moving: concrete formwork, work platforms, stairs and railings, blocking, embeds, protection, and related wood and light-gauge work. This is a build job, not a facilities-maintenance job — you build what the next trade needs, then move with the work. This position is based in Southaven, MS / Memphis, TN.

This is an hourly position with overtime.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Build, set, and strip concrete formwork, bulkheads, blockouts, embeds, and related forming for foundations, pads, walls, piers, and equipment bases in support of civil and concrete work.
• Construct work platforms, stairs, ladders, railings, toe boards, and access structures so civil, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, and related crews can work safely at height and around equipment.
• Frame, hang, and finish wood and light-gauge structures, including blocking, backing, partitions, door and window bucks, and equipment pads per issued-for-construction drawings.
• Layout from control, measure, cut, and assemble lumber, plywood, engineered wood, and related materials to drawing, specification, and site standards.
• Build and maintain temporary facilities, weather protection, enclosures, and safety structures that keep other trades productive through all construction phases.
• Read and interpret construction drawings, details, elevations, and work orders; produce as-built markups.
• Follow fall protection, lockout/tagout (LOTO), PPE, hot-work, and permit requirements on an active construction site.
• Operate hand and power tools (saws, drills, nailers, lasers, levels); climb structures; stage, protect, and store materials.
• Coordinate with civil, concrete, plumbing, electrical, and other trades so forms, openings, embeds, and platforms land correctly for the next install.
• Support punch-list closeout and turnover with engineers, contractors, and vendors.
• Document work performed and as-built markups.
• Operate company vehicles and specialized equipment; inspect and store personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Perform similar or less skilled incidental duties as assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
• 3+ years of commercial, industrial, or heavy-civil carpentry experience building formwork, platforms, railings, framing, or related structures.
• Ability to read construction drawings, details, elevations, and work packages.
• Proficiency with construction hand and power tools and layout tools (tape, level, square, laser).
• Working knowledge of construction safety, fall protection, and PPE requirements.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work at heights and in confined spaces, and work outdoors in all weather.
• Hourly position with overtime; willingness to work nights, weekends, and extended shifts during construction.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Journey-level carpenter experience (union or non-union) and/or completion of a carpenter apprenticeship.
• Industrial, manufacturing, or data center construction experience building forms, platforms, and access structures that support other trades.
• Experience on large-scale industrial or mission-critical projects, including work that supported civil, concrete, plumbing, or electrical crews.
• OSHA 30 or equivalent construction safety training; fall-protection competent person.
• Knowledge of print reading for architectural, structural, and civil drawings.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Schedule varies depending on site operational needs; frequent overtime and weekend support is required.
• Ability to perform job duties that require standing, kneeling, crouching, twisting upper body, working in cramped positions, climbing, lifting up to 50 lbs., and working on ladders/lifts at elevated heights.
• Ability to work in an environment requiring exposure to fumes, odors, noise, heat, cold, and rain.
• Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment.
• Stand: up to 6 hours per day.
• Sit: up to 3 hours per day.
• Push/Pull: up to 75 lbs. (unassisted) 1–2 hours per day.
• Overhead reach: up to 3 hours per day.
• Walk: up to 3 hours per day.
• Lift/Carry: up to 50 lbs. (unassisted) 1–2 hours per day.
