GTM Customer Engineer
Scout AI is hiring a GTM Customer Engineer. Level rates it ; you can apply on Level.
AI in this role
The future of defense will be decided by those who field intelligent machines at scale. At Scout AI, we’re developing Fury, the first robotic foundation model for defense, to give U.S. forces overwhelming, adaptable, and autonomous power across every domain. Fury enables human operators to command fleets of robots through natural language, and empowers those machines to sense, decide, and act together as one. This mission will ask everything of us: urgency, precision, and relentless work.
The Role
We’re looking for a GTM Customer Engineer Manager to become a trusted technical advisor to the customers and partners adopting Fury into their core missions and products. You’ll work closely with customer engineering, product, and operations teams as they field new capabilities powered by Fury: advising on architecture design decisions, developing evaluation frameworks, and guiding customers through the most cutting-edge implementation patterns for foundation models — while building and leading Scout AI’s customer engineering function as we scale.
Working closely with our Sales, Product, and Engineering teams, you’ll guide a focused portfolio of customers from technical discovery through successful deployment, combining deep engineering expertise with customer-facing skills to help customers unlock the full potential of Fury while maintaining our high standards for safety and reliability. We’re a startup. You’ll be moving fast, context-switching daily, and helping define the culture and process as we go. This is a rare opportunity to come in early and architect the future of defense.
Responsibilities
Serve as a specialist technical advisor to Scout AI customers as they deploy new capabilities enabled by Fury — from discovery through deployment — coordinating internally across multiple teams to drive customer success
Partner with account executives and solutions architects to translate customer mission and business requirements into technical solutions
Influence technical architecture decisions and customer product strategy by developing customized pilots, prototypes, and evaluation suites
Lead hands-on technical workshops and reviews with customer engineering teams
Recruit, mentor, and lead a growing team of customer engineers, defining the playbooks and processes that scale the GTM engineering function
Identify common design patterns and contribute insights back to our Product and Engineering teams
Create scalable public and internal assets documenting the latest prompting, evaluation, agentic, and architecture techniques for Scout AI foundation models
Maintain strong knowledge of the latest developments in LLM, VLM, VLA, and robotic foundation model capabilities, implementation patterns, and AI product development stacks
Travel occasionally to customer sites for workshops, implementation support, and building relationships
Attend conferences, lead speaking engagements, and write blog posts and white papers on topics surrounding the AI and autonomy space
Qualifications
4+ years of experience in technical roles such as Customer Engineer, Forward Deployed Engineer, Software Engineer, or Technical Product Manager with a desire to work closely with customers; former technical founders are also encouraged to apply
Production experience with LLMs, VLMs, and/or VLAs including advanced prompt engineering, agent development and frameworks, evaluation frameworks, transcript analysis, MCP, and deployment at scale
Strong programming skills with proficiency in JSON, Python or TypeScript and experience building production applications
Ability to navigate ambiguity and execute across domains with intellectual openness, finding simple solutions to complex problems
High-cooperation mindset for cross-organizational collaboration, balancing competing priorities with integrity
Passion for advancing safe, beneficial AI systems through creative technical applications
Exceptional communication skills to convey technical concepts to diverse stakeholders while maintaining a low ego and collaborative approach
At least a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export controlled information or facilities
Passion about defense of the United States and its allies
May be expected to obtain and hold a U.S. Top Secret security clearance
We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every single qualification as listed.

Skills and AI tools this role asks for
Questions you could be asked
- How do you structure and test a prompt to get consistent output from a language model?
- Describe a typical day in a role like this one: which parts run through AI directly?
- If you removed AI from this role, what would be left, and how do you decide what still needs a human?
Adapt your resume
- List these exact terms on your resume: Prompt engineering. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
- Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them — a tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
- Show where AI is part of your daily process, not a one-off project — this role expects it to be a running habit.
