About the Hiscox Data Team:
The Hiscox Data Team is transforming data maturity across the organization to accelerate business growth and efficiency using Data, Analytics, and AI. The virtual team consists of a central function driving alignment, Business Unit teams identifying commercial value and providing execution capacity and technology providing for Data Engineering and ML Operations services.

The Role:
The Lead Analytics Engineer is responsible for advancing retained knowledge across US Data Engineering practices, generating efficiency in bridging the gap between business and technology execution, and driving value by making data available and intelligible for all users. This position serves as the strategic technical lead for business context translation, data innovation, cross-functional collaboration, and enterprise-wide data management initiatives. Building upon the Senior Data & Analytics Specialist foundation, this role elevates responsibilities to include the creation and stewardship of innovation labs/environments, oversight of Learning & Development (L&D) content for US Data in the Learning Hub and Data Marketplace, and the design and implementation of training and cross-skilling programs for building retained knowledge across the team.
The Lead Data & Analytics Specialist is a forward-thinking leader who influences business outcomes, fosters a culture of continuous learning, and ensures the effective use and accessibility of data as a strategic asset for Hiscox US products.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Serve as the lead data and analytics technologist for multiple cross-functional teams, guiding access to and analysis of data and information.
- Own, manage, and measure the effective use of analytics and intelligence data by team members and business stakeholders (including managing use cases across data and business function domains)
- Establish and manage innovation labs and environments to pilot new data products, tools, and methodologies, fostering a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement.
- Conduct research and horizon scanning to identify emerging data and analytics trends, evaluating applicability to support business objectives.
- Generate, curate, and manage US Data L&D content in the Learning Hub, ensuring timely, relevant, and accessible resources for data professionals and business users.
- Design and implement comprehensive training plans for team members and business users, including cross-skilling and up-skilling programs for data teams to promote data literacy and advanced analytics capabilities.
- Champion continuous professional development, leading/mentoring senior and junior data specialists and engineering team members and facilitating coaching conversations at all organizational levels.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and derive technical requirements to support development, documentation, and implementation of the data solution design.
- Work with the leadership team, stakeholders, and product owners/managers to plan for new projects (solution design, infrastructure planning, estimation)
- Create, manage and maintain data models and context layers, including self-service and AI capabilities, that align with business objectives and data as a product vision, making definitions and usability clear and accessible by users and AI capabilities.
- Provide data expertise and guidance to US Data engineering teams and business users/data consumers.
- Perform effective problem solving with business experts, management, and team members to solve complex business and design/technical issues from strategy to execution.
- Perform data analysis and validation to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Collaborate with peers to ensure proper adoption and documentation of governance and best practices across data development.
- Establish, maintain, and promote consistent development methodology.
- Identify areas to simplify, reuse code and fix technical debts (e.g. performance tuning)
- Contribute to design sessions and conduct code and/or release reviews.
- Codify knowledge and expand the knowledge repository within the team.
- Coach, mentor and reinforce the team in the operating model and data domain knowledge.
- Conduct quality control and record-keeping procedures to ensure the highest levels of data integrity and keep team members accountable to meet expectations.
- Manage day-to-day technical challenges during execution and communicate any risks or issues to management.
Ideal Experience:
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
- 8+ years of progressive experience in data management, analytics, solution architecture, cloud platforms, data warehousing/lakehouse concepts, data modeling, and/or data engineering, with a track record of delivering high-quality, complex data solutions
- Demonstrated leadership in strategic data initiatives, innovation environments, and cross-functional project management
- Experience with data as a product and business intelligence concepts, such as data governance, data quality, data lineage, data catalog, data visualization, and data storytelling
- Expertise in self-service analytics and visualization capabilities utilizing tools such as Power BI
- Strong SQL, data modeling/warehousing, and AI (Claude, GEAP, Copilot, etc.) applied experience
- Advanced knowledge of data integration tools (DBT, SSIS) and frameworks (ETL, ELT, API, streaming), data structures (relational, non-relational, JSON, XML), and scripting languages (Python, R, PowerShell, JavaScript)
- Strong Insurance domain skills with experience in problem solving and demonstrated ability to implement and deliver industry specific solutions.
- Experience in designing and delivering training programs, L&D content, and cross-skilling initiatives for diverse audiences.
- Effective communicator with both technical and non-technical audiences; adept at presenting complex concepts clearly.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills; able to operate effectively in dynamic and ambiguous environments.
- Professional presence and ability to drive strategic outcomes and value.
- Experience with Agile frameworks and methodologies

The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
