Upstream Defect Elimination (UDE) is a Senior Leadership Team mission to remove unnecessary cost in Amazon's retail business, anchored to a shared S-Team goal of $5B Cost Out Impact (COI) in 2026, scaling to a proposed $10B in 2027. UDE requires a myriad of mechanisms and we're in search of a Principal Product Manager to lead the development of the software platform portfolio from within the Retail Business Services team to manage all defects.

Retail Business Services (RBS) is the force multiplier team for Amazon's Retail business growth worldwide through three core strategic initiatives: (1) Defect Elimination, identifying cross-all-retail defects at their root cause and driving extirpation to increase margins; (2) Selection, creating and enriching Amazon inventory data increasing gross merchandise sales growth; and, (3) Operational Excellence, to ensure Amazon's retail business is running efficiently and effectively.

RBS evolving a horizontal internal platform complete with a front-end interface to oversee our UDE program; and, we need an experienced Principal Product Manager to own product vision and lead a small, growing team of product managers as a player-coach across our tracking, reporting, identification, and extrapolation products. This role has significantly evolved in last couple of years, with additional products and capabilities expected to be either ramped up or developed.

As the Principal Product Manager, you would own the development life cycle of our UDE platform portfolio spanning defect tracking, reporting. Own the tool which uses AI for defect identification, and extrapolation to enrich defects with root cause, upstream system, and system owner built with an AI-first development philosophy. Moreover, the leader will lead efforts on simplifying underlying data architectures (with help of dedicated BIE team and central Data Engineering team) for ease of usage of these products, while leading the impact assessment capabilities. It is expected for the leader to continue pushing the envelope on thought leadership via 3YP and Annual plans, which aid not just RBS users, but larger Amazon teams in identifying defects, analyzing and root causing them, assess their impact. The leader is epected to lead a small team to begin with. RBS is investing in this space and depending on forward looking vision, we expect this to become a much larger role with larger team being managed.

Operating in ambiguity, you would define strategy and invent net-new mechanisms; the day-to-day responsibilities include but are not limited to removing org-level blockers; ensuring teams are tracking to committed timelines; defining deep product feature requirements; developing a road map; aligning with stakeholders; collaborating with partner teams; and ensuring a successful, on-time launch.

• Liaise with tech, product, ops and category teams to ensure timely deliverables for key projects
• Ability to work effectively & independently in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
• Influence VP/SVP/S-Team decisions and set product direction org-wide through compelling business documents
• Serve as a role model for Amazon's Leadership Principles and raise the bar for product managers across RBS

About the Team
Retail Business Services (RBS) supports Amazon's Retail business growth WW through three core tasks. These are (a) Selection, where RBS sources, creates and enrich ASINs to drive GMS growth; (b) Defect Elimination: where RBS resolves inbound supply chain defects and develops root cause fixes to improve free cash flow and (c) supports operational process for WW Retail teams where there is an air gap in the tech stack. The tech team in RBS develops automation that leverages Machine/Deep Learning to scale execution of these high complex tasks that currently require human cognitive skills

Basic qualifications

- 10+ years of product or program management, product marketing, business development or technology experience
- 10+ years of blending product and program management skills to execute strategic initiatives about process creation, standardization, and improvement experience
- Experience with feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product
- Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition
- Experience with end to end product delivery
- Experience as a product manager or owner
