Principal Product Manager, Tech, Amazon Shipping

AI in this role

ai-safety
Join Amazon Shipping (SWA) to build the next $100B initiative. Shape the future of shipping as part of a new, emerging business, solving the biggest customer pain points in the small-parcel logistics industry globally.

SAIL is Amazon Shipping's agentic orchestration layer and the most-used AI tool in our US Commercial org. As a Principal PM-T, you will own the strategic vision and long-term roadmap for SAIL, expanding it so any team can bring its data, agents, and tools and quickly plug into the ecosystem. Partnering across engineering, product teams, and business users in Sales, Operations, and Support, you'll ensure every AI experience Amazon Shipping delivers meets one quality and safety bar, and that any team can go from AI idea to production agent in weeks rather than quarters. This is a role for someone who originates the vision for a hard, multi-org platform problem, builds the alignment to fund and land it, and owns it through delivery — pairing deep empathy for the teams building on the platform with the technical depth to define what the platform is and is not.

The ideal candidate has personally owned platform products end-to-end — setting the roadmap and long-term vision and delivering the capabilities, not just authoring strategy for others to build. They bring a track record of treating internal developers as customers, hands-on experience shipping GenAI and agentic products to production responsibly, and the durability to drive a shared standard across teams that each own their own roadmaps.

Key job responsibilities
Originate and own the long-term vision and roadmap for SAIL across Amazon Shipping, building the alignment machinery (business case, narrative, senior leader buy-in) to fund and land it
Own initiatives end-to-end, from strategy through execution to measured business outcomes
Partner deeply with product teams across Amazon Shipping to understand what they need to plug their data, agents, and tools into SAIL, and reduce the time from AI idea to production agent
Define the platform capabilities teams can rely on i.e. unified data sources, agent-to-agent orchestration, and tool integration through MCP, and work directly with engineering to deliver them
Set the quality, safety, and reliability bar for every agent on the platform, and hold the platform accountable to it across surfaces
Sit with users, study SAIL usage patterns, and identify the manual work that should be agentified next
Lead expansion of SAIL to other Amazon organizations, making appropriate trade-offs across time-to-market, technical, and business outcomes
Influence executive leadership and drive alignment across multiple teams on long-term priorities
Display a self-starter mentality and dive below the surface to uncover the "so what," not just the symptoms
Up to 10% travel

A day in the life
You might start your morning reviewing usage data and customer behavior signals to pressure-test a hypothesis before presenting a strategic narrative to senior leaders. By midday, you could be in a design review session, scrutinizing prototypes and ensuring the experience meets the bar for simplicity and utility. In the afternoon, you may lead a cross-organizational working session to resolve dependencies for an upcoming launch, then close the day mentoring a product manager on your team.

About the team
Our team is focused on building products that create meaningful value for customers at scale. We operate in an environment where curiosity, technical depth, and a relentless focus on the customer experience are essential. We value collaboration across organizational boundaries and believe that the best ideas emerge when people with different perspectives work together toward a shared mission. If you want to shape product strategy that has real, measurable impact and work alongside talented builders who care deeply about getting it right, we would love to hear from you.

Skills and AI tools this role asks for

AI Safety

Questions you could be asked

  1. How do you think about the risk of an AI system in this kind of role failing silently?
  2. Describe a typical day in a role like this one: which parts run through AI directly?
  3. If you removed AI from this role, what would be left, and how do you decide what still needs a human?

Adapt your resume

  • List these exact terms on your resume: AI Safety. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
  • Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them — a tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
  • Show where AI is part of your daily process, not a one-off project — this role expects it to be a running habit.
