Senior Business Analyst / Data Analyst (Security Master)

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

We are seeking a Senior Business Analyst / Data Analyst to join our Product Team and own the business logic, data quality, and product backlog for our enterprise Security Master. In this role, you will manage a critical data engine that ingests reference data from multiple financial vendors and serves as the single source of truth for the firm. While you will not be responsible for building the technical data pipelines to downstream consumers, your work directly ensures the accuracy of data driving our most critical applications. This data is the bedrock for our Proposal System, Trade Order Management System (OMS), Portfolio Management System (PMS), and client reporting tools, making data integrity paramount to our daily trading and advisory operations.

As a member of City National's Technology & Innovation group, you will drive, develop, and maintain solutions for clients and colleagues. This is an exciting time of technology advancement and innovation across the bank, particularly within our technology teams.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

• Product & Business Analysis: Define and document business requirements, data mapping rules, and functional specifications for the Security Master platform.
• Agile Backlog Management & User Stories: Translate complex data and business requirements into clear, actionable JIRA user stories with precise acceptance criteria, and participate in sprint planning and grooming sessions.
• Vendor Data Management: Analyze, normalize, and reconcile complex financial reference data sets (including equities, fixed income, mutual funds, ETFs, and alternatives) sourced from multiple vendors (e.g., Bloomberg, Factset, Morningstar, IDC).
• Data Quality & Governance: Establish golden copy rules, survivorship logic, and data quality metrics to proactively identify and resolve data anomalies.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the primary bridge between engineering teams, external data vendors, and downstream product owners to ensure data models align with business needs.
• UAT & Validation: Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for security master enhancements, verifying that data structure modifications satisfy downstream consumers' rigorous data requirements.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Must to have:

• Bachelor's Degree in Finance or IT related.
• 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Data Analyst, or Product Owner within Wealth Management, Asset Management, or Capital Markets.
• Domain Knowledge: Deep understanding of Security Reference Data structures, corporate actions, and product symbology (ISIN, CUSIP, SEDOL, TICKER).
• Proficient in SQL, Python for data analysis, profiling, and querying complex databases, plus advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office for documentation and reporting.
• Downstream Awareness: Strong familiarity with how security data impacts wealth management workflows, specifically Proposal Generation, Order Execution/Trading, and Portfolio Management.
• Exceptional analytical skills with a proven track record of resolving complex data discrepancy issues across multiple vendors.

Nice to Have:

• Working knowledge of Python, PySpark, Microsoft Azure, and Azure Synapse for cloud data analysis
