Senior DevOps Engineer

Boeing Vancouver is seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer, reporting to the Manager of Defence & Government Services working out of the Richmond, BC office.

The ideal senior DevOps engineer is a cloud‑native platform expert with deep Azure Functions, CI/CD, IaC, and observability skills, plus strong leadership and cross‑team collaboration abilities 

The DevOps Engineer will be supporting the Defence & Government Services portfolio and will primarily work in collaboration and under the functional direction of our Solutions Architect. The role will exercise systems and data expertise, with a particular emphasis on on-prem infrastructure and application design, deployment and support for CI/CD. 

The dynamic and rapidly advancing technologies in the world of deployment require engineers that proactively stay up to date with new technologies and are always refining their craft. The Senior DevOps Engineer will work closely with a team to ensure high availability and redundancy of all systems. The role requires a strong blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and operational experience.

Position Responsibilities:

• CI/CD Automation – Expert in building and optimizing pipelines in Git Lab CI, with end‑to‑end automation for build, test, deploy, and rollback.
• Infrastructure as Code (IaC) – Strong hands‑on with Terraform or similar to provision and manage Azure resources consistently.
• Container & Kubernetes – Experience deploying and managing containerized workloads (AKS, Docker) alongside serverless functions.
• Observability & Reliability – Implements monitoring, logging, alerting, and performance tuning; supports incident response and root cause analysis.
• Security & Governance – Integrates security controls into pipelines, enforces Azure Policy, RBAC, and secrets management.
• Cross‑functional collaboration – Works closely with developers, architects, security, and product teams to deliver scalable, secure solutions.
• Mentorship & Technical Guidance – Leads technical direction, mentors junior/mid‑level engineers, and shares best practices.
• Problem‑solving – Resolves complex infrastructure, deployment, and reliability issues across distributed systems.
• Maintains Compliance.
• Implements security-by-design, cloud migration planning, and cost optimization at scale.

• Acts as a bridge between technical teams and executives, translating complex tech into business outcomes.
• Leads a multidisciplined range of technical systems and application activities.
• Leads activities to install, configure and maintain multiplatform systems hardware, software and components.
• Leads activities to plan, develop, design, integrate and maintain all computer applications.

• Plans and coordinates highly complex software and hardware for enterprise release. Ensures systems conform with architectural objectives.
• Evaluates complex system's production readiness and supportability.
• Performs the restoration of complex computing service operations.

• Participate in incident response and post-mortem analysis to continuously improve system reliability and performance.
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of configurations, operations, and troubleshooting procedures.
• Ensure all infrastructure components are securely configured and up to date with the latest security patches.

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at Richmond location. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

• 10+ years of experience in DevOps, cloud engineering, or platform engineering, including 3+ years working with Microsoft Azure or another cloud platform.
• Proven experience designing, operating, and supporting secure, scalable, and highly available cloud platforms.
• Ability to work independently while providing both hands-on technical support and strategic guidance.
• 5+ years of experience with containerization and orchestration technologies, particularly Kubernetes and OpenShift.
• Minimum 5 years of software development experience.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in Linux and network administration.
• Experience with development, deployment, and version control tools such as Eclipse, Git, Jira, and VersionOne.
• Experience working as part of an Agile delivery team.
• Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery tools, such as Argo CD and GitLab CI/CD.
• Experience with on-premises deployments and the associated operational challenges.
• Must be eligible for authorization under the Canadian Controlled Goods Program.
• Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
• Must not pose a risk to the safeguarding of controlled goods.
• Must be eligible for Canadian Secret Level II security clearance.
• Must be eligible to handle U.S. export-controlled data.

Preferred Qualifications (Education/Experience):

• Possesses strong blend of technical expertise, leadership skills, and operational experience.
• Experience with AI/ML
• Strong knowledge in back-end programming languages (ie. Java, Python, Node.js)
• Strong knowledge in front end programming languages (ie. HTML, Angular 2+, Typescript, JavaScript, React)
• Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC), preferably using Terraform
• Experience with developing and supporting applications in Docker
• Experience with container orchestration using Kubernetes, OpenShift or similar
• Experience with large and complex databases (preferably Oracle)
• Experience with data models and database design
• Experience operating in a production environment
• Experience with monitoring and logging tools
• Understanding of service mesh architectures and related technologies
• Familiarity with static code analysis tools, such as Coverity.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field

Salary pay range - $110,000.00 – $195,000.00 CAD
