Help us use technology to make a big green dent in the universe!

Kraken powers some of the most innovative global developments in energy.

We create the technology that redefines utilities and unlocks a new energy system of the future. By optimising renewable generation, building a more intelligent grid, and empowering utilities to deliver an exceptional customer experience, our operating system is transforming the industry worldwide.

It’s an incredibly exciting time to work in energy. Join us on our mission to improve the lives of ONE BILLION humans within the decade and shape a cleaner, better future for everyone.

Role Mission

Kraken runs billing for utilities in 15+ countries and 90m+ customer accounts. Our mission is to improve one billion lives through the energy transition. Billing is part of that mission, because a utility that cannot bill its customers accurately and on time cannot keep investing in cleaner energy. This is a role where you own a problem at that scale and where getting it right has a real effect on the energy transition.
You will own Billing with a strong focus on accuracy, timeliness and visibility, when and how a bill is triggered, how clients see which bills are late, held or inaccurate and why and how an inaccurate bill is corrected. The goal is for clients to be in control of their billing and trust that bills are created accurately and on time. They should never find out about a problem from their customers first. An inaccurate bill is corrected before that, which protects our clients' revenue and reputation.

You will work closely with clients and with the domain teams around billing (Charging, Issuance, Ledgers and Payments) and lead the Billing product area as a senior individual contributor, owning the vision and roadmap and working directly with the Billing engineering team. You will also be the person who knows what our APAC clients need from billing and makes sure it is built in core.

Primary Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Vision

  • Own the Billing product vision and roadmap with accuracy, timeliness and visibility as first-class topics. Set the long-term direction, map the dependencies and design for the different cases

    • Drive the shift to client self-serve control, so clients can configure when bills are triggered

    • Make it visible which bills are late, held or inaccurate and why

  • Own the corrections approach so an issued inaccurate bill is corrected consistently and an unissued one is caught before it reaches the customer

  • Reduce manual intervention and lower cost to serve for our clients

Cross-Domain Integration & Discovery

  • Understand how industry, product/tariff studio, charging, issuance, balance management and payments interact and lead clear trade-off discussions

  • Be the voice of the client for billing and understand what each market requires, with a focus on APAC clients

  • Make sure new market requirements are supported through the core, not one-off custom builds

Key Success Metrics & Outcomes

Your success is measured by billing accuracy, how on time bills are, the visibility clients have over their billing and the range of markets supported through the core.

Accuracy & Operational Success

  • Bills are triggered and created accurately and on time across clients and markets meaning inaccurate bills caught before issuance

  • Clients can clearly see which bills are late, held or inaccurate and why. For clients it means their teams spend less time checking bills by hand and more bills go out without manual intervention, which lowers their cost to serve and keeps their customers happier

Compliance & Coverage

  • Billing meets the requirements of each market it runs in. For clients it means they can launch in a new market without a custom billing build

  • Billing is not the blocker on client upgrades

What You'll Need

  • Highly capable individual contributor who wants to be the domain owner for billing

  • 5+ years in product management, ideally in billing or financial systems, owning a complex backend area end to end

  • A generalist who understands billing processes e2e, from triggering a bill through to issuance and corrections

  • Systems thinking across billing and the domains around it (tariff setup, charging, issuance, balance management and payments), reasoning about dependencies and edge cases

  • Comfort with metrics. You can define what good looks like for accuracy and timeliness and track it

  • A track record of turning client and regulatory requirements into product without being prescriptive about the engineering implementation

  • Advanced AI fluency. You use AI hands-on to explore problems, stress-test decisions and move faster

  • Strong written communication, anchoring decisions in evidence and presenting options with tradeoffs

  • Fluency in English is required

  • Comfortable working across cultures, time zones and with regional teams

A plus

  • Knowledge of the APAC market (Australia, New Zealand or Japan) and its billing requirements

  • Utilities or energy domain experience

  • Multi-market or international rollout experience
