Build software and AI systems that transform how Amazon designs, qualifies, and executes satellite manufacturing across the supply chain. We are looking for a Senior Software Development Engineer to architect workflow automation platforms that connect Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Readiness, Process Qualification, Production, Quality, Test, and Operations into a unified digital thread.
You will build systems that automate and accelerate complex manufacturing workflows, including manufacturing process qualification, supplier and process readiness, engineering change evaluation, inspection and test workflows, non-conformance disposition, and production issue resolution. Your work will help engineers and operations teams reduce manual coordination, standardize decision-making, surface the right manufacturing context at the right time, and move processes from engineering intent to production readiness faster.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, implementation, and operation of major components of Leo's manufacturing intelligence platform
- Convert ambiguous manufacturing, quality, and test problems into clear technical options, written designs, delivery plans, and measurable success criteria
- Build production software that connects satellite build data, test outcomes, inspection signals, quality records, supplier data, engineering changes, and on-orbit telemetry
- Design AI-native workflows that combine deterministic software, retrieval systems, foundation models, agentic tool use, human review, auditability, and safety guardrails
- Create evaluation mechanisms that measure AI workflow quality before production use, including accuracy, groundedness, confidence, escalation behavior, latency, and regression risk
- Define APIs, data contracts, integration patterns, and reusable platform primitives that partner teams can build on
- Lead design reviews and code reviews across the team and adjacent teams
- Mentor engineers and strengthen the team through technical guidance, mechanisms, and hands-on code contributions

A day in the life
You may start your day with Supply Chain, Manufacturing Engineering to understand how teams manage a complex manufacturing process qualification or supplier-readiness workflow. You then translate those requirements into workflow states, data contracts, automation opportunities, and integrations across partner systems.

Later, you may lead the design of an automated qualification workflow, review an AI-assisted decision workflow with partner teams, or simplify a critical interface.

You will work at the intersection of software engineering, AI, manufacturing, and supply chain to eliminate manual handoffs, accelerate critical workflows, and help scale satellite production with greater speed, consistency, and traceability.

About the team
Leo Satellite Build Systems builds the software foundation for satellite production. We connect architecture, design, manufacturing, test, validation, quality, and on-orbit operations into a single digital thread. Our mission is to turn fragmented manufacturing, inspection, quality, supplier, and fleet data into a living intelligence platform. We move quickly, but do not ship prototypes as production systems. We use AI where it creates leverage, and insist on evaluation, traceability, and human judgment where the consequences require it.

Basic qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
- 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience
- 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team
- Experience designing or building software systems that use generative AI, machine learning, search, or retrieval-based techniques
- Experience working with customers, stakeholders, or partner teams to clarify requirements and deliver software systems

Preferred qualifications

- Master's degree in computer science or equivalent
- 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Experience building GenAI-enabled applications using retrieval-augmented generation, agentic workflows, model orchestration, structured outputs, evaluation harnesses, guardrails, or human-in-the-loop review
- Experience designing systems that require traceability, explainability, auditability, compliance, or high-confidence decision support
- Experience building distributed systems, data-intensive applications, workflow platforms, search systems, knowledge systems, or internal platforms used by multiple teams
- Experience influencing technical direction across teams through written design documents, architecture reviews, code reviews, and constructive disagreement
- Experience working in manufacturing, aerospace, robotics, industrial systems, quality systems, test systems, supply chain, hardware production, or another complex physical-world domain

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
