Software Development Engineer II, Amazon Ads Demand Tech, Forecasting and Guidance
AI in this role
Design and build scalable forecasting and recommendation microservices and data pipelines, with a focus on agentic workloads and model integration.
You will write production code in Java, Scala, Python, and TypeScript, build and operate large-scale data pipelines and indexing infrastructure on AWS, and collaborate with applied scientists to turn forecasting models into reliable, performant services. A major focus ahead is scaling the platform for high-throughput agentic workloads and applying AI to accelerate software upgrades and reduce operational recovery times. If you enjoy working across the full software lifecycle and want your work to have a measurable impact on a business growing at 26% year over year, this is a compelling time to join.
Key job responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable APIs and microservices that serve real-time forecasting and recommendation results to advertising customers, with a near-term focus on scaling throughput for agentic workloads
- Build and maintain backend data pipelines on EMR, Spark, and S3 that process petabyte-scale datasets, generate search indexes, and keep daily data fresh and accurate
- Collaborate with applied scientists and product teams to translate time-series forecasting models and supply-demand algorithms into production-ready, well-tested systems
- Apply AI-driven approaches to accelerate platform upgrades, reduce tech debt, and lower mean time to resolution for operational issues
- Mentor engineers on your team through code reviews and design discussions, contribute to technical roadmaps, and document systems so they can be maintained and extended by others
A day in the life
Your time splits between proactive, roadmap-driven feature work and hands-on operational responsibilities. In a typical week you might spend mornings writing and reviewing code — building a new forecasting endpoint or tuning a Spark indexing job — then shift to monitoring deployment pipelines, investigating a data-quality anomaly, or reviewing dashboards for latency and forecast accuracy. You will regularly join design reviews and cross-team syncs with product, UX, and science partners. The role operates with significant autonomy: you own your features end to end, but you are never working in isolation — peer reviews, on-call collaboration, and mentoring newer engineers are woven into the rhythm of the week.

Adapt your resume
- List these exact terms on your resume: Software Engineering, Distributed Systems, API Development, Data Pipelines, and Forecasting. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
- Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them — a tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
- Show where AI is part of your daily process, not a one-off project — this role expects it to be a running habit.
