Software Development Engineer II, FinTech General Ledger

You will work on greenfield services from the ground up, tackling complex problems in cloud computing, distributed data processing, and high-throughput transaction handling. Collaborating closely with product managers, data engineers, accountants, and principal engineers, you will have direct influence on architecture decisions and the opportunity to grow your technical leadership skills in a high-visibility, mission-critical space.
Key job responsibilities
- Design and implement software solutions across the full development lifecycle — from requirements and system design through coding, testing, deployment, and operations — in a large-scale distributed environment on AWS.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners including product managers, data engineers, and finance stakeholders to understand business needs and deliver the right technical solutions.
- Mentor teammates through code reviews and technical guidance, raising the bar on code quality, security, readability, and maintainability across the team.
- Identify root causes of operational issues and drive permanent fixes, continuously improving system reliability and the team's operational practices.
- Evaluate new technologies and architectural approaches to solve high-scale data processing challenges, making practical recommendations for adoption.
About the team
At the heart of FinTech's mission is the General Ledger team, which builds and operates the technologies to account for and post millions of financial transactions daily to support accurate internal and external financial reporting. This team processes on average 371MM+ transactions per month, servicing the accounting needs of Finance, Accounting, and Tax teams worldwide. The work of the General ledger team is absolutely essential to meeting Amazon's critical close timelines and maintaining the integrity of the company's financial data.
Basic qualifications
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- 3+ years of full stack development experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred qualifications
- 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
