ABOUT US

Reframe Systems is a Physical AI and robotics company on a mission to make high-performance housing attainable and abundant in the communities where people want to live. Through our vertically integrated delivery model and highly automated microfactories, we deliver climate resilient homes and buildings with greater speed and predictability than traditional construction.

Our volumetric modular buildings are produced in our Andover, MA microfactory, with a growing pipeline across North America and a new microfactory on the way. We are building a system that balances repeatability with site-responsive design, enabling homes that are adaptable to each site, community, and customer need. Our cross-disciplinary team brings together architecture, robotics, design engineering, software, factory operations, and field delivery to change how housing gets delivered.

We’re reimagining the future of housing through a smarter and more sustainable system that empowers people to live better. Come build it with us.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

Your mission is to help build the next generation of our Pixels-to-Parts system: the software that turns a design, a floor plan and configurations, into every part our microfactory needs to build a home. Here's a somewhat recent talk from Ethan Keller, the tech lead for the Pixels-to-Parts team, showing what the system can do (as of Nov 2025):

We are seeking a software engineer to build the agentic workflows that interpret intent and the deterministic code that turns a design into exact geometry, parts and visualizations. You don't need CAD or architecture experience; we'd rather you question decades-old assumptions about design software and rebuild the stack from first principles, learning the domain alongside people who know buildings and manufacturing well. If you're a strong generalist who enjoys breaking down fuzzy problems, shipping, and seeing your code have real world impact (in this case, houses and apartments), this is your platform.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Help architect and build the core of our design automation platform: turn a floor plan into manufacturing-ready building design.

  • Turn our building system’s design decisions into a library of programmatic checks. Each one validates a model against hard dimensional, code and manufacturing constraints, and explains a failure by pointing to the rule behind it.

  • Build agentic workflows: tool-using agents, MCP servers, and retrieval over our design and product data

  • Develop evals and guardrails that check model outputs against hard physical, code and manufacturing constraints

  • Write deterministic, well-tested code that generates geometry, parts lists and manufacturing data from a design

  • Help build the visualization layer so designers, customers and the factory can see and verify a design

  • Deploy and operate what you build in the cloud: containers, infrastructure as code, CI/CD and observability

  • Work closely with Architecture, Design Engineering, DFMA (design for manufacturing and assembly) and Factory Operations. Learn how buildings are designed and built, including on the factory floor.

  • Improve our engineering practices, tooling and developer experience as the team grows

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related quantitative field is preferred; equivalent experience is welcome

  • 5+ years building production software, with Python as a primary language

  • Experience shipping cloud-native software (containers, managed services, infrastructure as code, CI/CD)

  • Strong interest in agentic systems, shown through work or side projects, e.g., MCP servers, RAG pipelines, LangGraph or similar frameworks, tool-calling agents, LLM evals. Production experience is a significant plus

  • Comfort with the math and algorithms behind your code (geometry, linear algebra, graphs or optimization)

  • A generalist's range: comfortable moving between backend, data, infrastructure and some frontend as the problem requires

  • Experience setting technical direction for a system or team

  • Track record of mentoring engineers and raising the bar on engineering practices.

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity. You work effectively under deadlines and shifting priorities while maintaining quality and accountability

  • Clear written and verbal communication, and a hands-on, "no fences" approach to collaboration

  • Able to work on-site in Billerica, MA at least 2 days a week

  • Bonus: Exposure to manufacturing, robotics, hardware or other systems where software meets the physical world is a plus. No CAD, BIM or architecture experience required

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER

Reframe Systems is proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.

If you believe you have the skills to thrive in this role, we encourage you to apply—even if you don't meet 100% of the listed requirements. At this time, we are only considering candidates who are authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.

How we rate this

Software Engineer, Applied AI at Reframe Systems rates 83 out of 100 for how much of the daily work is AI. That makes it Builds AI (AI Level 4 of 4). The level is about AI in the job, not seniority.

Classification

Builds AI. The job is building AI systems.

  1. ●●●● Builds AI80 to 100
  2. ●●●○ Works on AI60 to 79
  3. ●●○○ Uses AI40 to 59
  4. ●○○○ Little AI0 to 39

Levels come from how often the tools, models and workflows of the role are named in the posting itself. Open the description and count.

Skills and AI tools this role asks for

RAGAI agentsLangGraph

Questions you could be asked

  1. How would you design a retrieval step so the model answers from real data instead of guessing?
  2. How do you decide when an AI agent can act on its own versus asking for approval first?
  3. What are the limits of LangGraph that you've run into, and how did you work around them?
  4. How would you decide a model or AI system is ready to ship?
  5. Tell me about a time a model underperformed in production. How did you find out, and what did you change?

Adapt your resume

  • List these exact terms on your resume: RAG, AI agents, and LangGraph. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
  • Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them. A tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
  • Lead with what you built, trained or shipped. This role is judged on the AI system itself, not the tools around it.
