Amazon Leo is building the world's most advanced low Earth orbit satellite network, delivering fast, affordable broadband to enterprise and consumer customers globally. This is one of the most ambitious infrastructure programs in Amazon's history — combining satellite manufacturing, silicon development, global supply chain, terrestrial infrastructure, and enterprise technology at unprecedented scale. Leo Infrastructure Finance is at the center of it all.

The successful candidate will have effective analytical and communication skills, with an ability to build and articulate financial results and analytical insights to executive level business and finance leaders. You will be entrepreneurial by nature as Leo has a start-up mentality, analytical in approach, have a demonstrated ability to develop financial models that provide intelligence for business decisions and be able to leverage your project management skills to lead simultaneous workstreams. This role requires a self-starter with superb business partnering skills, a keen attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high degree of ambiguity, and a track record of deep financial analysis. The candidate must have the aptitude to incorporate new approaches and methodologies (including statistical concepts) while dealing with big data, be able to develop and define key business questions and to build data sets that answer those questions.

This role leads the financial architecture, cost accounting, and controllership functions for Amazon Leo's satellite manufacturing operations. The Senior Finance Manager serves as the principal finance partner to manufacturing site leadership, building financial processes, systems, and governance structures in a complex, multi-site production environment. This is an opportunity to build rather than inherit—designing the controllership framework that will scale with production ramp and site expansion.

Key job responsibilities
Controllership:
The Senior Finance Manager manages the income statement and balance sheet of the manufacturing business, monitoring and tracking, cost accruals, tangible assets, monthly close, and all items with material impact on business KPIs. The role monitors free cash flow including working capital drivers and other assets and liabilities. This leader supports adherence to Amazon's financial internal controls through regular monitoring and auditing, drives culture change in developing awareness of how internal controls impact business practices, and ensures compliance with documented financial directives including support of annual internal controls assessment campaigns.

Cost Accounting & Inventory Management:
This leader owns component-to-finished-good cost accounting across complex product structures, from raw component through final satellite assembly, integration, and testing. Responsibilities include managing production variance analysis across high-mix, volume components and standardized platforms, establishing inventory valuation methods for long-lead components, sub-assemblies, and high-value work-in-progress, and leading the financial governance of engineering change orders and their impact on material costs. The role develops and maintains engineered standards, work measurement systems, labor performance metrics, learning curve analysis, and cost estimating methodologies that drive manufacturing cost accountability from the program level down to individual work centers.

Financial Planning, Reporting & Performance Management:
This role creates and executes the Annual Operating Plans and quarterly forecasts in accordance with corporate schedules and governance. The Senior Finance Manager delivers meaningful variance analysis for monthly and quarterly business reviews, providing a coherent business narrative that drives corrective actions. Responsibilities include developing manufacturing cost center budgets, labor forecasts, and program support estimates. The role builds cost and performance management systems measuring labor utilization, manufacturing efficiency/yield, budget performance, cost performance, schedule performance, forecast accuracy, and resource utilization—creating the reporting framework that ensures transparency between operational execution and financial outcomes.

Strategic Partnership & Operational Decision-Making:
The Senior Finance Manager serves as the primary financial advisor to the site operations leadership team, providing strategic guidance on cost management, capital investments, and operational efficiencies. This includes analyzing results, explaining business trends, and recommending improvements. The role partners with plant managers, supply chain leaders, and business on capital investment analysis, productivity initiatives, cost reduction programs, and manufacturing process improvements. The leader provides clear and accurate financial guidance to leaders both on-site and across the broader organization, enabling optimal business decisions at every level.

Capital Planning & Investment Governance:
The role evaluates and prioritizes capital investment opportunities in manufacturing facilities and equipment, leading financial due diligence for new projects and ensuring alignment with ROI and payback criteria. This includes financial oversight and capital expenditure tracking, monitoring adherence to approved budgets, and supporting productivity initiatives that drive return on invested capital across the manufacturing footprint.

New Factory Financial Architecture & Launch Strategy:
The Senior Finance Manager develops the complete financial architecture for the manufacturing site, including labor-routing models, overhead absorption structures, and rate frameworks from inception. This includes modeling production ramp-up phases to analyze capacity constraints, cash flow implications, and break-even timelines. The role evaluates capital expenditure for automated assembly, cleanroom infrastructure, and advanced testing systems, partnering with engineering and supply chain teams to establish target costing and make-versus-buy frameworks that optimize the cost structure across satellite platforms.

ERP & Systems Leadership:
The Senior Finance Manager serves as the principal finance stakeholder for enterprise ERP and Manufacturing Execution System implementation. This includes designing the Chart of Accounts, cost centers, and work breakdown structures that form the digital financial backbone. The role automates inventory tracking, standard cost rollups, and material issuance within the manufacturing execution thread, and builds real-time financial dashboards and operational reporting tools that translate complex factory data into actionable business intelligence for site leadership.

Team Leadership & Development:
The Senior Finance Manager mentors and develops team members, fostering a continuous improvement environment. The role trains and supervises staff, interacts with peers to share ideas and develop best practices across the organization, and leads change management initiatives to improve site-level accounting, analysis, and financial decision-making capability.

Adapt your resume

  • List these exact terms on your resume: Financial Modeling, Cost Accounting, Controllership, Big Data, and Financial Analysis. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
  • Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them — a tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
