AI in this role
Build AI-powered tools and agentic automation to support, diagnose, and prevent outages in large-scale fulfillment systems.
We are looking for passionate, hard-working, and talented engineers who have experience supporting innovative, mission-critical, high-volume applications — and who are excited to apply AI and agentic automation to how large-scale systems are supported and operated. You will have an enormous opportunity to work across multiple systems: researching and identifying common issues, building AI-powered tooling that diagnoses and prevents them, and driving teams toward resolution to have a positive impact on the customer experience. Your solutions will impact our customers directly. This role requires you to hit the ground running; your ability to learn quickly and work on disparate and overlapping tasks will define your success.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, has superior verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational skills, can juggle multiple tasks at once, works independently, and maintains professionalism under pressure. You must be able to identify problems before they happen and implement solutions that detect and prevent outages. Your ability to accurately prioritize work, make sound technical trade-offs, improve the customer experience, and get the right things done will have a direct impact on Amazon's Supply Chain Optimization and fulfillment-network efficiency.
As a SysDE II on this team, you will work autonomously on difficult, team- and component-level problems, build resilient and well-tested solutions, and increasingly act as a force multiplier — enabling other builders through the tools, automation, and AI capabilities you deliver.
Key job responsibilities
- Dive deeply into technical details to diagnose, reproduce, and root-cause issues across Amazon technology products (services, tools, data solutions, etc.), and drive them to resolution or escalation.
- Design, build, and operate AI-powered and agentic support capabilities — diagnostic agents, automated root-cause analysis, anomaly detection, and self-healing/auto-remediation — that detect and prevent issues before they impact customers.
- Apply AI across the software development lifecycle (spec-driven and AI-assisted development, agentic workflows) to raise engineering velocity and quality.
- Automate repetitive operational tasks to increase efficiency and reduce manual toil, and build tooling that enables other engineers.
- Manage trouble tickets through to resolution or escalation using existing documentation, procedures, and tools, and improve those mechanisms over time.
- Use technology to monitor security vulnerabilities and eliminate risk; identify and mitigate reliability risks at the team and component level.
- Improve service resilience, performance, and operational metrics; define and apply operational-excellence practices for the team.
- Participate in a team on-call rotation, providing operational support for the services the team owns.
- Collaborate with partner teams, Technical Program Managers, and Product Managers to deliver on shared goals.
- Work in an Agile environment using the Scrum methodology.

Skills and AI tools this role asks for
Questions you could be asked
- How do you decide when an AI agent can act on its own versus asking for approval first?
- Tell me about a project where automation was part of your work. What did you do?
- Tell me about a project where incident management was part of your work. What did you do?
- Tell me about a project where system support was part of your work. What did you do?
- Tell me about a project where troubleshooting was part of your work. What did you do?
Adapt your resume
- List these exact terms on your resume: AI agents, Automation, Incident Management, System Support, and Troubleshooting. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
- Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them. A tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
- Show where AI is part of your daily process, not a one-off project. This role expects it to be a running habit.
