The Global Construction (GC) team under GREF is looking for a Construction Area Manager (Level 6, CM III) to lead the Area 3 portfolio that corresponds to the Southeast United States and Latin America. This leader will drive the construction services across the Area, including new builds, retrofits, renovations, expansions, decommissions, and program initiatives from design through construction, closeout and occupancy. You will lead a team of Construction Managers overseeing the construction, renovation, and decommissioning of multiple corporate facilities across a large geographic footprint—including planning, design, and facility construction. You will partner with internal and external stakeholders to establish and follow scope, budget, and schedule commitments, and you will own the execution and standardization of construction related processes across the Area.
Key competencies include defining Area-level construction strategy, managing cross-functional stakeholder relationships, driving financial governance across multiple currencies and regulatory environments, ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery of capital projects, vendor governance, talent development, and safety program ownership. Translating technical documents into a clear end-to-end narrative, including detailed risk analysis for leaders and customers is essential. This role combines construction management, project delivery, real estate development, design oversight, multi-disciplinary coordination, contract management, and organizational leadership across eight countries.
This position requires travel of up to 25% within the assigned region. Outside of required travel, this position is office-based; however, Amazon encourages open communication about unique needs for flexible arrangements.
Key job responsibilities
• Define the Area's construction strategy and delivery standards, ensuring consistent execution across eight countries and multiple regulatory environments. Translate direction from leadership into Area-specific operating models adapted to local conditions.
• Lead a team of Construction Managers for the GREF Area 3 portfolio—overseeing project management services, design services, and external partner performance for complex projects.
• Represent GREF construction delivery to Country Leaders (LATAM) who serve as customer stakeholders. Navigate competing country-level priorities and negotiate resource allocation.
• Own the Area's financial governance—defining cost controls, reporting cadences, and change-management protocols across multiple currencies and regulatory environments.
• Work with internal stakeholders and external partners to secure resources, create and uphold contractual terms, and drive delivery. Influence and negotiate across a cross-functional network
• Manage vendor procurement and oversee professional service providers, ensuring competencies meet requirements. Own vendor selection, performance standards, and termination decisions for all General Contractor (GC) and specialty trade partners within the Area.
• Prepare project status and risk reports and concise summaries to present to leadership. Write effective narratives.
• Coordinate with the authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ) on projects to ensure regulatory compliance and smooth execution.
• Drive continuous improvement—creating sustainable and repeatable processes, streamlining excess process and risk, and recommending improvements to how projects are scoped, built, tested, and deployed across the region.
Basic qualifications
- 7+ years of project management, real estate development, architecture/design experience
- Bachelor's degree
- Bachelor's degree, or 4+ years of directly managing and responsible for multiple large projects experience
- Experience as an Architect, Engineer, Construction Manager, Development Manager, Owner's project management representative or in other Commercial Development and Construction related disciplines
- Speak, write, and read fluently in French and English with respect to complex technical instructions and concepts
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in commercial real estate or lease administration within an industrial, commercial, and/or data center environment
- Experience operating within at least two disciplines within the construction industry, such as Contracting, Owners Representation, Architecture, Design and Engineering, Commercial Development, analysis and control of construction costs or similar
