DevOps Engineer - Mid Level

AI in this role

Job Description

As a Mid Level DevOps Engineer, you will support the delivery of customer projects and the ongoing operation of production services. You will be involved throughout the technical delivery lifecycle, including planning, client meetings, cloud-infrastructure deployment, Imagen software installation, and workflow automation.

You will work as part of the wider delivery team to ensure deployments are fully operable at go-live, maintain existing service levels during change and transition, and improve service quality through automation, incident reduction, and effective recovery processes.

The role requires strong technical knowledge of cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, scripting, networking, and Windows Server environments. You will communicate with customers and internal stakeholders while contributing to consistent operational standards and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

In this opportunity as a Mid Level DevOps Engineer, you will:

  • Deploy and Configure Customer Solutions: Deploy and configure cloud-based infrastructure and install the Imagen software solution for customer projects.
  • Configure Platform Environments: Configure ImagenWeb using platform editing tools to deliver customer-specific configurations and finishing touches.
  • Support Data Migration: Write and run bespoke data-migration processes.
  • Develop Automation Solutions: Develop scripts and automation to improve delivery and content-onboarding workflows.
  • Ensure Service Operability: Ensure new services meet operability requirements, including monitoring, alerting, logging, documentation, runbooks, and handover, before go-live.
  • Improve Service Quality: Support the reduction of incident rates through root-cause analysis, problem management, and automation.
  • Support Incident Resolution: Work with first-line operations and technical support to improve service recovery times and resolve customer issues.
  • Maintain Service Levels: Maintain or improve existing service levels during changes and service transitions.
  • Engage with Customers: Communicate with customers through meetings, email, phone, and conference calls, providing a high level of customer service.
  • Contribute to Delivery Planning: Participate in internal weekly planning meetings and contribute ideas for projects.
  • Promote Continuous Improvement: Monitor developments in cloud technology and recommend improvements to working practices.
  • Follow Operational Standards: Follow operational standards, procedures, and best practices while promoting consistency across the team.
  • Provide On-Call Support: Participate in on-call or out-of-hours support as required.

Required Qualifications

You're a fit for the role of Mid Level DevOps Engineer if you have the following required qualifications:

  • Experience with cloud technologies, including AWS or Azure, Docker, Kubernetes, Lambdas, and Function Apps.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools, such as Terraform, Azure DevOps, and GitHub Actions.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting proprietary software.
  • Experience with Python or Windows PowerShell scripting.
  • Experience with SQL.
  • Thorough understanding of networking standards and protocols.
  • Experience with the latest Windows Server operating systems, including troubleshooting a range of IT issues.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate ideas and solutions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to deliver customer deployments to a high standard of accuracy and customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or technical operations role.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools.
  • Exposure to ITIL-style incident, problem, and change management.
  • Experience in media, broadcast, or video workflows.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, PHP, and CSS.
  • Understanding of XML and XSL transformation.
  • Relevant certifications, such as Azure Administrator, Azure DevOps Engineer, AWS, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, or ITIL 4.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Core Competencies

  • Customer Focus: Builds confidence with clients and delivers work to a high standard.
  • Ownership: Takes responsibility for outcomes, not only assigned tasks.
  • Collaboration: Works effectively with support, operations, and delivery colleagues.
  • Continuous Improvement: Uses data and new technology to improve processes.
  • Personal Development: Demonstrates aptitude for learning and professional growth.
