Director Commercial & Medical AI Transformation
Advert Closing Date: 21st October 2026
Introduction to role:
Are you ready to turn AI into measurable impact within Sales, Marketing, and Medical Affairs?
You will help teams spend more time on scientific exchange, partner relationships, and patient outcomes.
Purpose:
Alexion UK & Ireland aims to use artificial intelligence responsibly to accelerate innovation, improve decision-making and enable colleagues to focus on the work that develops the greatest value for patients, customers and the rare disease healthcare ecosystem. The Director, Commercial & Medical AI Transformation will lead the strategy, prioritisation, adoption and expansion of generative AI and AI-agent workflows across Sales, Marketing and Medical Affairs in Alexion UK & Ireland.
This leadership role involves product transformation and AI in business and healthcare. It focuses on identifying where AI can automate, augment, or redesign key activities throughout the product lifecycle. These activities range from early disease-area planning and pre-launch preparation to launch, in-market optimization, indication expansion, and lifecycle management. This role involves translating priority business needs into practical AI solutions and collaborating with internal and external partners to pilot, evaluate and scale them. Focus areas will include disease and tactical planning, account planning, advisory boards, sales and field medical training and coaching, content creation and reuse, launch planning and execution, field-force enablement, stakeholder mapping, customer and medical insight generation, knowledge management and cross-functional reporting.
Combining deep pharmaceutical experience across Commercial and Medical Affairs with practical knowledge of Microsoft Copilot, Copilot Studio, AI agents, workflow automation, enterprise search and AI-enabled analytics, the successful candidate will work credibly across Sales, Marketing, Medical Affairs, AI Enterprise, Business Operations, Digital, Analytics, Legal and Compliance. They will convert business problems into safe, scalable solutions with measurable results. They will help develop the future operating model for the Alexion UK & Ireland region and build a culture of experimentation, continuous learning, and responsible AI adoption. Success will be measured through improvements in efficiency, brand performance, insight quality, customer and collaborator engagement, colleague experience and outcomes for individuals affected by rare diseases. The role supports functional expertise without replacing it by reducing unnecessary administration and improving access to reliable insights. This allows colleagues more time for strategic judgement, scientific exchange, collaborating with partners, customer understanding, and patient impact.

Skills and AI tools this role asks for
Questions you could be asked
- How do you decide when an AI agent can act on its own versus asking for approval first?
- How do you think about the risk of an AI system in this kind of role failing silently?
- What are the limits of Copilot that you've run into, and how did you work around them?
- Describe a typical day in a role like this one: which parts run through AI directly?
- If you removed AI from this role, what would be left, and how do you decide what still needs a human?
Adapt your resume
- List these exact terms on your resume: AI agents, AI Safety, and Copilot. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
- Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them — a tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
- Show where AI is part of your daily process, not a one-off project — this role expects it to be a running habit.
