Wood is currently recruiting for an experienced PMC Lead Engineering (Island Design) for our ADNOC project in Abu Dhabi within our Oil, Gas & New Energies business.    Due to the nature of the projects and client expectation, the position will be based full time at our client office in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.    The Role

Lead and manage the offshore island design engineering activities for a PMC project, ensuring that all engineering deliverables, interfaces, technical studies, and design reviews are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, international codes, and client requirements.

The role will provide technical leadership for the island design discipline and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities involving civil, structural, marine, geotechnical, offshore facilities, pipelines, utilities, and construction interfaces.

Engineering Leadership

  • Lead the overall offshore island design engineering scope from concept/select phase through detailed engineering and construction support.
  • Establish design criteria, engineering philosophies, design basis, specifications, and technical requirements.
  • Review and approve engineering deliverables produced by EPC contractors, design consultants, and specialist subcontractors.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, applicable international standards, local regulations, and Client requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineers and designers within the PMC team.
  • Monitor engineering progress, quality, and technical performance against project schedules and milestones.

Offshore Island Design

  • Lead the development and review of offshore island layouts, grading plans, reclamation concepts, breakwaters, causeways, marine facilities, and associated infrastructure.
  • Coordinate geotechnical, hydrodynamic, metocean, coastal, marine, and environmental inputs into the island design.
  • Review design of reclamation systems, rock protection, erosion protection, revetments, seawalls, breakwaters, and associated marine structures.
  • Review settlement, consolidation, stability, bearing capacity, slope stability, scour, and foundation-related design considerations.
  • Coordinate interfaces between the offshore island and topsides, offshore facilities, pipelines, subsea systems, utilities, roads, drainage, and temporary works.
  • Ensure constructability, operability, maintainability, and future expansion requirements are incorporated into the design.

Multidisciplinary Coordination

  • Coordinate with civil, structural, geotechnical, marine, mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, process, HSE, and construction disciplines.
  • Manage engineering interfaces between the island, offshore facilities, marine works, pipelines, subsea infrastructure, and onshore facilities.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary design reviews, HAZID/HAZOP/constructability reviews, model reviews, and technical workshops.
  • Resolve technical queries, interface issues, deviations, and design changes.

PMC / EPC Contractor Management

  • Review contractor engineering submissions, calculations, drawings, specifications, design reports, and technical studies.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with approved design basis and project requirements.
  • Review and respond to technical queries, concession requests, deviations, and requests for information.
  • Identify potential engineering risks and ensure appropriate mitigation measures are implemented.
  • Support management of engineering change requests and technical deviations.

Construction & Commissioning Support

  • Provide engineering support during offshore island construction and installation activities.
  • Review construction methodologies, temporary works, marine spreads, reclamation sequences, and offshore execution plans.
  • Participate in site visits, technical inspections, FAT/SAT where applicable, and construction readiness reviews.
  • Resolve field engineering issues and ensure as-built requirements are properly captured.

Expected

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil engineering, Structural Engineering, Marine Engineering, Coastal Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Master's degree in Coastal, Marine, Geotechnical, Structural, or Offshore Engineering is advantageous.
  • Professional engineering certification/registration is preferred.
  • Minimum 15+ years of relevant engineering experience, with significant experience in offshore, marine, artificial island, reclamation, or major oil & gas infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience in a lead engineering role within a PMC/EPCM/EPC environment.
  • Experience with major offshore oil & gas projects, offshore platforms, artificial islands, marine infrastructure, or large-scale reclamation projects.
  • Strong experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and EPC contractors.
  • Experience with design review, contractor management, technical assurance, and construction support.

Technical Knowledge

Strong knowledge of relevant standards and practices, including where applicable:

  • API / ASME standards
  • ISO offshore standards
  • BS / EN standards
  • DNV standards and recommended practices
  • PIANC guidelines
  • Eurocodes
  • Local authority and environmental requirements
  • Client engineering specifications and standards

Knowledge of the following is desirable:

  • Coastal and marine engineering
