AI in this role
Manage product tax compliance, assessments, and cross-functional launch readiness for Stripe's financial infrastructure platform.
Who we are
About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies - from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups - use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.
About the team
Stripe’s Tax team helps ensure that Stripe’s products comply with applicable tax requirements. We partner with product teams to understand Stripe’s products, evolving product strategy, and desired business outcomes. We develop tax approaches that support those goals while maintaining tax integrity.
We provide tax requirements to cross-functional partners and help ensure they’re implemented. We also identify process gaps and support finance operations across several functions.
What you’ll do
We’re looking for an experienced tax professional to focus on products developed by Stripe. You’ll help scale Stripe’s tax processes as we grow in a fast-paced environment. You’ll assess the tax implications of Stripe’s products and initiatives, then partner with cross-functional teams to develop and implement effective solutions that meet Stripe’s tax obligations.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary tax contact for end-to-end product launch readiness, partnering with cross-functional teams on tax issues related to Stripe products
- Identify and assess tax issues associated with product launches, including indirect tax, information reporting, transfer pricing, and income tax, and work with tax subject matter experts to provide clear requirements to product teams
- Help draft and implement tax policies and procedures that affect product operations, keeping them current as tax laws change
- Support internal user-facing teams, including Account Management, Sales, and User Operations, in addressing product needs and user questions related to tax
- Review internal processes and external user communications drafted by Marketing or User Operations to help ensure that tax-related documentation is clear and useful
- Assist with other tax projects as needed
Who you are
We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.
Minimum requirements
- 7 or more years of cross-border tax experience at an accounting or law firm, in-house, or in the financial services or payments industry
- An advanced degree or professional qualification in tax or law, such as a Certified Public Accountant certification, Juris Doctor, master’s degree in tax, or Master of Laws degree
- Knowledge of tax subject areas such as indirect tax, information reporting, withholding, transfer pricing, and income tax reporting, with experience applying these rules in scalable operations
- Experience managing time, projects, and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to adapt your communication to different audiences and translate tax laws into requirements for product and engineering teams
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in both an accounting or law firm and an in-house tax role
- Experience in technology, payments, financial services, or another high-growth multinational business
- Experience addressing the tax implications of cross-border product launches
- Experience building scalable tax processes and controls
