Pre-Development and Advanced Development of Oral Healthcare Functions, Features and Benefits for consumers through the investigation and exploitation of fluid dynamics, electromechanical systems, and multi-physics engineering principles in the setting of Front-End Innovation.

As a Function Development Engineer, you develop and validate innovative technical solutions to fulfill consumer and product function requirements. You work in close cooperation with Marketing, Clinical Affairs, Product Development, Product Research, System Engineering, and Electrical Engineering teams. You always safeguard our trusted values regarding consumer-centric meaningful innovation.

The primary focus of this role is the development of fluid delivery and oral cleaning systems, spanning from pressure generation, pumping systems and actuation mechanisms to nozzle design, water jet formation, oral interaction, and cleaning performance.

As a Function Developer, you are responsible for:

• Front-end innovation and pre-development activities, including translating commercial, functional and design specifications into new functions, technologies and innovative products.
• Identify physical principles necessary to deliver targeted user benefits and develop verification methods to evaluate technical solutions against requirements.
• Develop and optimize fluid delivery systems including pumps, flow paths, valves, nozzles, and electromechanical actuation systems.
• Investigate, characterize, and optimize functional parameters such as pressure, flow rate, pulse characteristics, jet velocity, impact force, and cleaning performance.
• Develop methods and instrumentation to verify product functionality and support benefit substantiation.
• Utilize simulation, modeling, and experimental approaches to understand, predict, and optimize system behavior.
• Investigate how water jets interact with teeth, interdental spaces, and gingival tissues and translate engineering parameters into meaningful consumer benefits.
• Safeguard functionality, performance, quality, reliability, and manufacturability of new technologies and products.
• Generate and maintain technical knowledge in fluid dynamics, oral cleaning systems, and related engineering domains.
• Participate and/or lead as a key competence resource within innovation projects and multidisciplinary teams.
• Generate technical input for roadmap and strategy discussions.
• Cooperate with colleagues across disciplines and effectively communicate technical concepts to stakeholders with varying levels of expertise.

Requirements:

First of all, you are creative and analytical. In addition, you are a team player and have excellent communication and collaboration skills. We would like to meet you if you also meet the following criteria:

• You have a Master's or Doctorate degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Fluid Mechanics, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, Biomedical Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Preferred 5-10 years of experience in product, technology, or innovation development.
• Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, hydraulic systems, and electromechanical actuation.
• Experience in the development of pumps, fluid delivery systems, nozzles, or related technologies.
• Experience with simulation and modeling techniques for engineering analysis and product development.
• Experience with CFD and multi-physics simulation is preferred.
• Experience developing verification methods and characterization approaches for complex engineering systems.
• Broad technical interest and eagerness to learn and explore new fields.
• Passion for solving complex technical challenges through theoretical and experimental approaches.
• Ability to balance innovation with practical realization.
• You are proactive and persistent in achieving goals and driving improvements.
• You are capable of communicating complicated technical information to audiences with varying levels of expertise.
• Experience within a regulated industry preferred (medical devices desirable, along with knowledge of FDA Quality System Regulations and ISO 13485).
• Experience with Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), DOE, or TRIZ is a plus.
