AI in this role
Lead end-to-end product design for a next-generation operations platform incorporating experience, data, and orchestration.
Senior Product Designer (Chief Operations Office Business Unit)
Do work that matters
At CommBank, we are transforming how operations work across the Bank - reimagining the systems, tools and experiences that enable our people to deliver for customers every day.
You’ll join a cross-functional team shaping a next-generation operations platform - designed to simplify and standardise complex processes, improve how work is allocated and managed, and unlock more consistent, efficient outcomes for both staff and customers.
This work sits at the intersection of experience, data, orchestration and AI, with an ambition to create scalable, reusable foundations that support a wide range of operational processes across the Bank.
About the role
As a Senior Product Designer, you will be a highly capable individual contributor embedded in a cross-functional product squad, trusted to operate with a high degree of autonomy, with direction from a Principal Designer.
You will take ownership of significant areas within a complex platform problem space - driving design from early problem framing through to delivery and continuous improvement. You will independently navigate ambiguity, shape well-defined problem spaces, and deliver high-quality, scalable solutions.
You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering and Data to influence direction, challenge thinking, and ensure design is central to decision-making.
This role is suited to someone who combines strong systems thinking with hands-on craft, and who is comfortable leading workstreams, raising the bar for quality, and driving outcomes without requiring close direction.
What you’ll do
Deliver complex design outcomes
- Lead end-to-end design for substantial problem areas, from discovery through to delivery and optimisation.
- Translate complex operational challenges into clear, scalable experience solutions.
- Drive design quality and consistency across workflows, contributing to more standardised and reusable approaches.
Drive discovery and problem framing
- Lead and facilitate discovery within your problem space, identifying unmet needs and opportunities.
- Define hypotheses, success measures and experiments to guide decision-making.
- Use evidence to challenge assumptions and shape direction, not just validate solutions.
Design for scale and systems
- Create experience models, flows and interaction patterns that scale across multiple use cases.
- Consider platform, data and operational contexts - including how work is surfaced, managed and measured.
- Balance short-term delivery with longer-term experience coherence.
Influence and align teams and stakeholders
- Partner closely with Product, Engineering and stakeholders to shape priorities and solutions.
- Influence decisions through clear rationale, strong design artefacts and evidence-led storytelling.
- Proactively identify and resolve misalignment across squads where experiences intersect.
Lift design quality and capability
- Set a high bar for design craft, clarity and systems thinking within your squad.
- Contribute actively to critique, collaboration and knowledge sharing across the design community.
- Act as a trusted design voice, helping others navigate complexity and raise their practice.
What you’ll bring
- Strong experience designing complex digital products, platforms or services end-to-end within cross-functional teams.
- Proven ability to own and drive design outcomes independently in ambiguous, high-complexity environments.
- Demonstrated strength in systems thinking and designing for scale across workflows or journeys.
- Experience leading discovery, framing problems and shaping direction using evidence.
- Confidence influencing Product, Engineering and business stakeholders through clear thinking and strong rationale.
- Ability to balance strategic intent with hands-on execution across UX and UI.
- Strong communication, facilitation and storytelling skills.
- Demonstrated familiarity with emerging AI-enabled design and rapid prototyping tools, with the ability to leverage modern AI-assisted workflows to accelerate iteration, collaboration, and business requirement sign-off.
- Experience with tools such as Figma Make, Claude Code, Codex, or similar tooling is highly desirable.
- A portfolio demonstrating end-to-end ownership, strong craft and measurable impact.
Why join us
- Work on meaningful, high-impact challenges that improve outcomes for both staff and customers.
- Contribute to building scalable operational platforms used across the Bank.
- Be part of a collaborative product and design culture with opportunities to grow and stretch.
- Access strong design leadership, community and investment in your development.
