Software Engineering Intern (Winter 2027)
AI in this role
At Harvey, we’re transforming how legal and professional services operate. By combining frontier agentic AI, an enterprise-grade platform, and deep domain expertise, we’re reshaping how critical knowledge work gets done for decades to come.
This is a rare chance to help build a generational company at a true inflection point. We have strong product-market fit and world-class investor support. We’re scaling fast and defining a new category in real time. The work is ambitious, the bar is high, and the opportunity for growth — personal, professional, and financial — is unmatched.
Our team moves fast, takes ownership, and is deeply committed to the mission — operating with intensity, staying close to our customers, and pushing each other for excellence. We live by three values: Decisiveness, Simplicity, and Job's Not Finished. We act quickly on clear judgment over perfect information, we believe simplicity is what scales, and we're never satisfied with where we are. If you want to do the best work of your career alongside people who share that drive, we'd love to build with you.
At Harvey, the future of professional services is being written today — and we’re just getting started.
Role OverviewAs a Software Engineer, Intern (Winter 2027) on the Engineering team at Harvey, you’ll work alongside experienced engineers on projects that power our AI products. You’ll collaborate with our Product, AI, Legal, and GTM teams to help build secure, intuitive systems that deliver real value to our customers.
This 12 or 16 week internship is ideal for students who are curious, motivated, and excited to learn how modern application-layer and GenAI products are built. You’ll gain hands-on experience across the stack, contribute to real features, and see how your work impacts users in production.
We're currently hiring Winter 2027 interns in Toronto, including Frontend, Backend, Full-Stack and Infrastructure intern roles. Your interests & experience will be factored into our team matching process, where you’ll have the opportunity to learn about teams across Harvey including Collaboration & Matters, Enterprise, and Infrastructure.
What You'll DoYou will:
Own a project end-to-end from coding and testing to deploying it to production, and presenting your work to peers and leaders across the company.
Write clean, maintainable code that meets our team's standards. You'll use AI-assisted development tools daily, and you’ll own the quality of everything you ship—AI-generated or not.
Build real knowledge of the systems you support and the users they serve, bringing that perspective into product discussions.
Debug problems in your area, follow escalation procedures, and treat quality as urgent. Our users are lawyers doing high-stakes work.
Collaborate with your team through code review, pair programming, design reviews and technical documentation.
Depending on your team, you could work on retrieval over large document collections, interfaces for collaborating with AI systems, multi-region compute infrastructure, enterprise agents, or secure systems for sensitive client data. You'll also evaluate frontier models alongside senior engineers.
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in computer science, engineering, or a related field with a graduation date of December 2027 or later.
Able to work from our Toronto office during the winter cohort, based on your academic schedule. Relocation support is available.
Previous internship experience is required.
Technical foundation. Strong proficiency in one or more languages (Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Java, Go, or similar) and solid general computer science knowledge.
Decisiveness. You have a bias toward action. You've built something start to finish in coursework, a personal project, or in a past internship, and you know the difference between a decision you should make yourself and one worth getting feedback on. You'd rather move and correct course than stall.
Simplicity. You can explain a complex technical idea in plain language, whether or not the person you're explaining it to is an engineer. You look for the simplest solution that works, and you know when added complexity is worth it.
Job's Not Finished. You aren't satisfied when something merely works. You proactively seek out feedback, act on it, and keep pushing after the assignment is technically complete. Internship experience specifically at an early-stage startup is a plus.
AI Forward. Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) and curious about building LLMs into your own coding workflow.
Our interview process includes AI-assisted coding sessions; you'll be expected to work with AI tools the way you would on the job.

Adapt your resume
- List these exact terms on your resume: Claude, Cursor, Claude Code, and Codex. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
- Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them — a tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
- Put the AI tool in a bullet point about what you did, not just in a skills list — this role treats it as a required part of the job.
