About the RoleSlack is looking for a Sr. Director of Engineering to lead a high-impact engineering organization within our platform. This leader will own technical strategy, execution, and team health for Slack, partnering closely with Product, Design, and cross-functional engineering leadership to deliver reliable, scalable, and delightful experiences for millions of users.
What You'll Do
- Own end-to-end delivery for your engineering org from technical roadmap and architecture decisions to execution and operational excellence.
- Build, mentor, and scale a team of engineering managers and senior ICs; set a high bar for technical talent and inclusive leadership.
- Partner with Product and Design leadership to translate business priorities into technical strategy and roadmaps.
- Drive engineering rigor: code quality, system reliability, security, and scalability across your area.
- Represent your organization in cross-Slack and cross-Salesforce planning, influencing broader technical direction.
- Manage budget, headcount planning, and org design for your team.
- Foster a culture of accountability, psychological safety, and continuous improvement.
What We're Looking For
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years in engineering leadership roles managing managers.
- Proven track record leading large-scale, distributed systems at consumer or enterprise SaaS scale.
- Strong technical judgment: able to go deep on architecture and design when needed, while empowering teams to own execution.
- Experience partnering with Product/Design at the executive level to shape roadmap and strategy.
- Demonstrated success building and scaling high-performing, diverse engineering teams.
- Excellent communication skills; comfortable operating with ambiguity and driving clarity for others.

The typical base salary range for this position is $257,500 - $451,700 annually. In select cities within the San Francisco and New York City metropolitan area, the base salary range for this role is $310,200 - $496,400 annually.
