AI in this role
Assistant Video Editor to cut turnkey and templated social content, manage project files, and support senior editors.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Vox Media is looking for an Assistant Video Editor to join a growing post-production team within the branded content division for Vox and New York Magazine. This role is built for an editor early in their career who is sharp with turnkey and templated formats, comfortable owning quick-turn social cuts independently, and eager to grow into larger, more complex projects under supervision. You'll also work closely with the Post-Production Supervisor to set up and organize projects for external editors, making you a key connective piece between in-house editing and the freelance bench.
Editing and Craft
- Edit turnkey and templated content such as cutdowns, recaps, and repeatable social formats for various platforms
- Cut quick-turn social edits independently, following established templates and house style
- Take on larger or more complex edits with guidance from the Post-Production Supervisor and Creative Directors, building toward independent ownership of bigger projects over time
- Add basic music and sound design to elevate templated pieces
- Apply light color and LUTs following house presets
Project Setup and Coordination
- Partner with the Post-Production Supervisor to set up and organize projects for external/freelance editors such as bins, sequences, and file structure, following in-house SOPs
- Create stringouts for Editors and Creative Directors per project
- Prep and organize incoming footage, dailies, and assets ahead of handoff to external editors
- Support project wrap-out and archiving, keeping files clean and organized across both in-house and external-editor projects
Workflow and Technical
- Work in Adobe Premiere, including Team Projects and Productions, following house SOPs for project, bin, sequence, and track structure
- Support turnovers to color and sound mix during finishing on larger projects
- Work flexibly across a remote and hybrid workflow, including shipping/receiving drives and cloud sync as needed
Collaboration and Delivery
- Share cuts via Frame.io and address internal notes accurately, flagging concerns proactively
- Maintain clear communication with producers, the Post-Production Supervisor, and external editors
- Learn from and support senior editors on shared projects, with room to grow into more senior editing responsibility over time
WHO YOU ARE
- 2-3 years of experience editing in a digital, social, or branded content environment
- Comfortable and fast with templated, repeatable edit formats, with a desire to grow into more complex, independent work
- Working knowledge of Adobe Premiere; familiarity with team projects/Productions is a plus
- Comprehensive knowledge of technical specifications for distribution across all digital platforms
- Organized and detail-oriented - comfortable managing file structure and project setup, not just cutting
- Familiarity with Frame.io or similar review/delivery tools
