Job Description

Associate Data & AI Engineer - Medical Imaging (Bedford, MA)

We are seeking a highly motivated Data & AI Engineer to curate, annotate and leverage medical imaging datasets to enable algorithm and model development in support of Philips’ imaging capabilities across multiple clinical modalities to bring cutting‑edge imaging solutions from concept to deployment.

Your role:

  • Source, curate, and annotate X-ray coronary angiography datasets to support model development. Use simulated, clinical and phantom data to train and validate segmentation, classification, and reconstruction models.
  • Collaborate with clinical, engineering, and data science teams to define imaging‑related algorithmic solutions. Work closely with product managers, clinical partners, and QA to present updates and technical findings.
  • Design, implement, and test image‑processing algorithms in Python, Tensorflow and PyTorch, while supporting deployment and integration with a focus on software quality. Troubleshoot and debug performance issues as needed.
  • Document code, algorithm designs, and validation methods to ensure transparency and reproducibility. Contribute to regulatory documentation and quality‑assurance workflows related to algorithm development.
  • Explore opportunities to learn GPU/CUDA optimization techniques. Demonstrate continuous improvement and actively share knowledge across teams.

You're the right fit if:

  • You earned a bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, or biomedical imaging.  Exposure to X-ray based coronary angiography is a strong plus.
  • You have experience developing algorithms using Python and are highly familiar with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch and Tensorflow, as well as building GUI-based data annotation and review tools using Tk or Napari.
  • You have strong knowledge of signal or image‑processing concepts and numerical methods.
  • You have experience quantitatively validating algorithm performance using imaging datasets.
  • You leverage your problem‑solving, critical‑thinking, and debugging abilities along with your clear written and verbal communication skills.  You have attention to detail, especially in documenting code and technical decisions.
  • You must be able to successfully perform the following minimum Physical, Cognitive and Environmental job requirements with or without accommodation for this position.

How we work together:

Questions you could be asked

  1. How do you keep labeling instructions consistent across a large annotation team?
  2. Walk me through how you've used PyTorch in your day-to-day work.
  3. What are the limits of TensorFlow that you've run into, and how did you work around them?
  4. How would you decide a model or AI system is ready to ship?
  5. Tell me about a time a model underperformed in production. How did you find out, and what did you change?

Adapt your resume

  • List these exact terms on your resume: AI Data Labeling, PyTorch, and TensorFlow. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
  • Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them. A tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
  • Lead with what you built, trained or shipped. This role is judged on the AI system itself, not the tools around it.
