π About the team
If you have worked in financial services audit, you may have tested a provisioning model, reviewed a receivables population or chased a reconciling item through several systems.
This role is the other side of that work.
Alma is a regulated lender. We originate millions of consumer receivables every year, refinance them through securitization vehicles and other funding lines, and operate as both a sociΓ©tΓ© de financement and a payment institution. Our internal core banking ledger feeds NetSuite and our regulatory reporting processes. Your role will be to own and strengthen this chain across accounting, data, controls and reporting.
You will join a Finance organization of around 15 people and report to the Head of Financing, Regulatory Capital Optimization & Accounting. You will work closely with General Accounting, Financing, Regulatory, Internal Control, Engineering and Data. The scope is broad by design, but you will not work in isolation: your role is to build a scalable accounting and control architecture with the teams around you.
πΌ About the job
Decide how a lending business is booked, don't just review the answer
- Own the accounting framework for our lending business, including revenue recognition, provisions, write-offs, recoveries, securitizations and funding.
- Define the chart of accounts, PCEC mapping and accounting schemes for new products, partners and geographies, then defend your positions with our statutory auditors.
- Use AI to draft, challenge and stress-test accounting doctrine before it reaches an auditor or regulator.
Own the machine that produces the numbers
- Be the functional owner of our internal core banking ledger, from the business event to the accounting entry, account, currency and date.
- Specify and validate accounting schemes before go-live, and work with Engineering and Data on the ledger model, ERP feeds and any necessary fixes.
- Own the audit trail end to end, from an individual installment to a prudential statement. You will be in the room where the system is designed, not only where its output is explained.
Build the controls instead of testing them
- Design and automate the reconciliations between the ledger, general ledger, bank, FCT reporting and prudential statements.
- Build SQL controls on full populations and use AI to accelerate control development, anomaly triage and investigation.
- Turn manual month-end checks into evidenced, repeatable and explainable controls. A control you cannot walk someone through is not a control.
- Act as Financeβs counterpart to Internal Control and Periodic Control on accounting and data-related topics.
Be the person who answers the regulator
- Own the production and quality of our prudential and statistical reporting, including solvency, large exposures and liquidity.
- Maintain the key reconciliations between regulatory returns, accounting balances, the trial balance, own funds and RWA.
- Own the reporting tooling and data feeds, working with Regulatory and Financing on changes to the prudential framework and our securitizations.
- Build answer kits so that questions from auditors or regulators can be answered with the relevant source, reconciliation and first draft in minutes, not days.
- Industrialise recurring production so the team has the capacity to handle the next structure, country or regulation.
𧩠About you
You are likely to have:
- 6 to 7 years of experience in financial services, most likely starting in audit of banks, consumer credit, asset management or securitization, with possibly a first move in-house. You know how to build a number, prove it and defend it.
- Strong accounting foundations, ideally in French banking GAAP, PCEC, cost of risk, credit-product revenue recognition or securitization. A broader financial services background is also relevant if you can quickly build the banking layer.
- A genuine appetite for data and investigation. You are comfortable with SQL, or motivated to become so quickly. You are willing to work directly with large populations, trace anomalies to their source and fix the underlying process.
- Clear written communication. You can turn complex accounting or regulatory questions into a memo, procedure, accounting scheme or answer that others can understand and challenge.
- An autonomous, hands-on mindset. You enjoy building frameworks that do not yet exist, working closely with Engineering and Data, and using AI to accelerate your work while knowing what still needs to be verified.
- Fluency in French and English, as our documentation and regulatory environment are French, while part of our business and team are international.
It would be a plus if you also have:
- Experience with securitization, including FCTs, SPVs, waterfalls or derecognition.
- Exposure to prudential reporting, regulatory reporting tools or funding activities.
- A DEC, CPA, ACCA or equivalent qualification, or an interest in pursuing one.
- Experience with NetSuite, BigQuery, dbt, Python or a scaling fintech environment.
Two things this role is not
It is not statutory production. General accounting β purchases, payroll, fixed assets, tax, statutory and consolidated financial statements β stays with our General Accounting Manager. You interface with that team constantly; you do not run it.
It is not a run job. A good part of the framework is still to be built, and that is what makes the role interesting β but if you are looking for an environment where everything is already written and settled, this is not it.
Don't meet every single requirement? At Alma, we believe great hires come from diverse paths. If this role excites you, we encourage you to apply. We value potential, curiosity and the ability to grow as much as experience.
