AI in this role
Amazon is seeking a Communications Manager to own strategy and messaging for last-mile delivery operations and reputation issues.
As Communications Manager, Last-Mile Issues and Campaigns, you'll own the communications strategy for a portfolio that touches aspects of Amazon's last-mile delivery model. Last-mile delivery touches regulation, safety, and public trust, and this role sits at the center of how we communicate across all of it. You'll lead strategic narrative development and scenario planning that keeps the team ahead of legislative shifts, emerging campaigns, and related issues. You'll coordinate across relevant business lines and communications teams, partnering with Policy Comms, Field Comms, and others, to bring the right expertise to bear at the right moment and ensure Amazon speaks with one clear, strategic voice. You'll draft the statements, talking points, and briefing documents that represent Amazon externally, and you'll manage the feedback and approval cycles that come with them. You'll spend as much time seeding stories and shaping narratives as you do managing the reactive moments that come with the portfolio.
You're a high-judgment communicator who doesn't flinch when things get complicated. You can hold multiple fast-moving situations at once without losing your footing, but what sets you apart is your ability to spot the issue before it breaks and start building the strategy, not just the response. You think clearly under pressure, write precisely on deadline, and know how to bring the right people together at the right moment. You're comfortable as an on-the-record spokesperson, and you know how to work with reporters to shape a story before it spirals. You think like a strategist, connecting dots across policy, operations, and reputation to protect and advance the business. You don't wait to be told there's a problem. You've already mapped the landscape, built the plan, and brought the right people to the table.
This is a strong independent contributor role that reports into the Core Operations Communications team within the Global Operations and Workplace Reputation team.
Key job responsibilities
Manage complex, fast-moving, and unexpected communications challenges with high judgment and professionalism.
Be precise under tight deadlines and prioritize and manage multiple situations simultaneously.
Effectively represent Amazon as an on-the-record spokesperson.
Work with reporters to correct and clarify breaking news stories.
Write, develop, and manage approvals of external communications materials dealing with sensitive and timely topics.
Participate in multi-stakeholder emergency response meetings to provide insight and guidance from an external communications point-of-view.
A day in the life
You might start your morning scanning media coverage and legislative trackers to flag any new developments that could affect Amazon’s last-mile operations — then pull together a quick brief for a leader heading into a sensitive meeting. By midday, you could be on a call with legal and public policy partners to assess the communications implications of a pending bill or regulatory action, working through the messaging framework and drafting an initial statement. In the afternoon, you may shift to handling a reactive media inquiry on a breaking story, coordinating approvals in real time while staying in close contact with the reporter to manage the narrative. You’ll close out by updating scenario plans for upcoming legislative milestones and checking in with issues managers across the team to make sure nothing’s falling through the cracks.
About the team
We’re a team of strategic communicators responsible for telling the story of how Amazon gets people their packages — from the first mile to the last. We work across organizational boundaries to develop integrated communications strategies that inform, engage, and build trust with the audiences that matter most. We use data to shape our decisions, and we anticipate and mitigate reputational headwinds through cross-channel efforts. We value thoughtful collaboration, creative problem-solving, and a commitment to getting the details right.
On the issues side of the team, we move fast and we move together. When a legislative campaign or regulatory challenge emerges, we’re the ones coordinating the response — aligning messaging across legal, policy, and business partners and making sure Amazon’s voice is clear, consistent, and credible. We’re building for the long term — investing in mechanisms, relationships, and talent that will scale as Amazon grows. If you want to do meaningful work alongside colleagues who care deeply about their craft and support each other’s growth, this is the team for you.
