FE Product Engineer
AI in this role
Build the frontend visual layer and real-time telemetry data dashboards for physical AI compute hardware and robotics systems.
FE Product Engineer
Somana is a generative robotics company. We founded the company because the incredible advances in the modeling layer have no way to access a fragmented physical world. We're building the connective tissue that brings physical AI into the industrial world.
Somana is a hardware, software, and services platform powering rapid improvements in capacity, throughput, yield, and quality. Our compute platform will talk to hundreds of peripherals, survive factory floors, and keep getting smarter - which means the network fabric that binds modems, WiFi, sensors, cameras, switches, and compute subsystems together is as critical as the silicon itself.
Role Overview
As an early engineer on our Platform team, you will build the visual layer between our compute hardware and the customers who depend on it. Novel camera, sensor, and robotics systems deployed at customer sites stream in enormous volumes of live data - and you will own making that experience fast and genuinely easy to navigate and understand.
This is a frontend-leaning product engineering role reporting to our SW Platform Lead. You will be tasked to own the vision for client-side functionality: setting the bar for React and TypeScript craft, establishing the design system, and driving the product vision for how streaming industrial data should look and feel. You will work closely with customer-facing engineering and robotics engineers to understand what operators actually need, and your decisions will shape how every future customer experiences Somana.
Responsibilities
Own the web client end-to-end - architecture, feature development, performance, and release - from first prototype through production deployments in live factories
Build snappy, data-dense visualizations of real-time telemetry: streaming sensor readings, camera feeds, machine state, and events rendered at high frame rates in the browser
Establish the frontend foundation: component library, design system, state management, and testing patterns for a team that will grow around your standards
Partner with customer-facing engineering and robotics teams on the APIs and data contracts that move high-throughput streams from deployed hardware into the browser
Drive product direction for the client experience: turn customer and field feedback into a UX vision, and make the call on what gets built next
Sweat the details that matter in this domain: perceived latency, interaction feedback, and graceful degradation when connectivity drops, because on a factory floor a flaky network is the default, not the exception
Basic Qualifications
5+ years building and shipping production web applications, with deep React, TypeScript, and HTML/CSS experience
Experience architecting frontends for high-frequency streaming or real-time data (WebSockets, SSE, gRPC streaming, WebRTC, or similar) at meaningful scale
Track record owning a web product or major client-side surface area end-to-end, including the architecture decisions behind it
Comfortable working full-stack: you can ship an API endpoint, tune a query, or debug a data pipeline when the moment calls for it
Comfortable using AI coding tools (Claude, Codex, Cursor or similar)
Strong product sense and real opinions about UX - you have shipped interfaces where performance and clarity were the product
Preferred Skills and Experience
Experience visualizing time-series, sensor, or telemetry data: charts, dashboards, and virtualization of large datasets
Has built a design system or component library from scratch in a startup environment
Exceptional collaboration and documentation skills - you can write crisply about design decisions and tradeoffs, and make async teams better through clear artifacts
Genuine passion for usability: you run your own user conversations, prototype from research insights, and treat operator feedback as the product roadmap
Bonus points for experience or passion in robotics, IoT, simulation or other hardware-adjacent domains where software meets the physical world
Location and Compensation
SoHo, New York City
Competitive salary + meaningful equity - this is a foundational role on a small team
Catered lunch, snacks, panoramic views, and pet-friendly office
Health, Dental, Vision benefits + 401k
How we rate this
FE Product Engineer at Somana rates 30 out of 100 for how much of the daily work is AI. That makes it Little AI (AI Level 1 of 4). The level is about AI in the job, not seniority.

Adapt your resume
- List these exact terms on your resume: Frontend, Data Visualization, Real Time Telemetry, UI UX, and Claude. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
- Attach one line of real, concrete experience to at least one of them — a tool named with nothing behind it rarely survives a human read.
