About the Role

The Global Ethical Manager will lead the development and delivery of the Argos Global Ethical strategy for Clothing & General Merchandise by guiding internal teams and supporting suppliers. You will develop and deliver a risk-based programme of ethical audits to drive improved commitment and continuous improvement throughout the Argos supply base.  

 

You will be a pivotal support in the global delivery of onboarding assessments and site assessments and provide a rapid response to supplier, site and human rights issues as required.    

 

This is a fixed-term contract for 6 months. Hybrid between Coventry and Home.

 

 

What I am accountable for  

  • Develop supplier facing policies in association with relevant stakeholders and ensure effective implementation and compliance
  • Develop and deliver risk-based programme of supplier assessment ethical audits and environmental audits covering clothing, general merchandise and associated print, packaging and key indirect service providers
  • To deliver ethical expertise and effective issue management, as well as oversee the escalation process as required
  • Liaise with and influence outside agencies regarding ethical issues or audit standards
  • Train and develop colleagues to ensure competence and consistency in supplier auditing and supplier management
  • Identify emerging supply base risks based on knowledge of current and industry trends
  • Develop and maintain reporting to support continuous improvement
  • Manage the escalation and derogation process
  • Maintain flexibility to provide a rapid response to supplier issues as and when required
  • To identify and rectify any unacceptable practices at suppliers related to ethical and health & safety, working closely with the Category Technical teams and Commercial teams to ensure satisfactory conclusion of all issues in a timely manner
  • Collaborate with technical and commercial teams to address ethical non-conformances at factories
  • Risk based programme of ethical audits delivered to time and budget
  • Unacceptable practices at suppliers related to ethical, health & safety environmental standards identified and rectified to a satisfactory conclusion in a timely manner
  • All supplier visits documented, with clear actions that are followed up and closed out to the appropriate timescales
  • Supplier facing policies in place, trained out and reviewed
  • Improvement in supplier KPI’s relating to ethical standards
  • Assist with developing and taking the lead on implementing the Group’s Human Rights commitments for responsible product categories

 

What I need to know  

  • Experience in ethical management and issue resolution in general merchandise, clothing, electrical and/or food retail auditing
  • Lead auditor for social auditing skills with audit experience
  • Health & safety/environmental management systems training
  • Knowledge of fraud detection techniques
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis techniques
  • Data analysis and management skills and good IT skills
  • Full driving licence as this role does involve travel
  • Great attention to detail and the ability to follow issues through obsessively, with high standards for self and others and a fair but firm attitude.
  • Self-motivated to work on own initiative as well as within a team.
  • Able to build collaborative relationships through matrixed structure, networking internally and externally.
  • Strong organisation and planning skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and able to communicate at all levels
