Job Description:

Global Network & Telecom Services - Full-Stack Product Engineer (Network Automation & AI-Ops)

Collaborate with Innovative 3Mers Around the World

Choosing where to start and grow your career has a major impact on your professional and personal life, so it’s equally important you know that the company that you choose to work at, and its leaders, will support and guide you. With a wide variety of people, global locations, technologies and products, 3M is a place where you can collaborate with other curious, creative 3Mers.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military experience to a 3M career.

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

The person filling this role will join 3M’s world-class Global Network & Telecom Services organization as part of the Network Automation team, building the software, automation and Artificial Intelligence-driven operations (AI-ops) capabilities that keep 3M’s global network reliable and efficient.

As a full-stack product engineer, you will own the product surface of our internal tools — dashboards, network topology and graph visualizations, data-dense operational views, and conversational (AI assistant) interfaces — and the Application programming interface (API) and data integrations behind them. You will contribute across a portfolio of work: our internally built platforms, vendor-provided tools we extend and integrate, and new initiatives as they arise.  You will work closely with the team’s AI engineers, consuming the AI services, agents and tools they build and growing your own AI engineering skills over time. This position requires occasional work outside normal business hours.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Design, develop, test and maintain the front-end product surface of the team’s internal tools and platforms — operational dashboards, network topology/graph visualizations, large data views and real-time/streaming displays — using TypeScript and modern web frameworks (for example React)
  • Build and refine conversational and agent-driven interfaces (chat User Interface, streaming responses, rendering of tool/agent output) that provide natural-language access to network and inventory data
  • Build and maintain the Application programming interface (API), services and data integrations behind these experiences, reconciling and exposing data from sources such as Configuration management Database (CMDB), cloud inventory, Axonius, Domain Name System(DNS)/IP Address Management (IPAM) and Information Technology Service Manager
  • Contribute across a portfolio of work — internally built platforms, vendor-provided tools we extend and integrate, and new cross-team initiatives (for example a network-aware ‘golden path’ for application deployments with the platform engineering team)
  • Consume and integrate the AI services, agents and tools built by the team’s AI engineers (Large Language Model (LLM) assistants, summarization/triage, anomaly detection, natural-language query) into production user experiences, using AI-assisted development tools to accelerate delivery
  • Use Git, GitHub Actions and continuous integration/continuous delivery/deployment (CI/CD) to build, test and deploy in a repeatable, auditable way, applying front-end quality practices (component/UI testing, accessibility and performance)
  • Translate business and operational requirements into technical solutions; document workflows and runbooks, provide support escalation as needed, and collaborate with a globally distributed team in Agile/Scrum practices

Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Technology (completed and verified prior to start) and Five (5) years’ experience in Information Technology in a manufacturing, private, public, government, or military environment.

OR

  • High School Diploma/GED (completed and verified prior to start) and Eight (10) years’ experience in Information Technology in a manufacturing, distribution center, private, public, government, or military environment

AND

  • Five (5) years of experience developing back-end or integration code (for example in Python and/or TypeScript/Node.js) and comfort working with YAML in private, public, government, or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • Working knowledge of Git and version control, and of CI/CD concepts
  • Interest in and aptitude for applying AI — for example integrating LLM/AI services and agents into applications — with a desire to grow AI engineering skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a globally distributed team in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience building data-dense or operational UIs — dashboards, graph/topology or network visualizations, large data tables, or real-time/streaming data (for example WebSockets)
  • Experience building conversational or agent-driven interfaces, or integrating LLM/generative AI services (for example AWS Bedrock, Azure OpenAI), including streaming responses and tool-calling output
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases, GraphQL, and designing/consuming APIs
  • Front-end testing experience (for example Jest, Playwright or Cypress), design systems and accessibility (WCAG)
  • Working knowledge of network concepts and data (for example inventory/CMDB, DNS/IPAM, routing and switching) — the ability to understand and work with network data is a strong plus
  • Experience integrating or extending vendor-provided platforms and working across multiple tools and systems
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS and Azure), containers or Linux
  • Familiarity with Agile frameworks and ITSM processes

Questions you could be asked

  1. What's a project where you used OpenAI hands-on?

Adapt your resume

  • List these exact terms on your resume: OpenAI, Bedrock, and Azure OpenAI. An applicant tracking system matches the wording, not the idea.
