We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.
About your team:
At British Gas, our mission is to sell it and mend it.
We’ve been powering the UK’s homes and businesses for over 200 years – but supplying energy is just part of what we do. We’re making the UK greener and more energy efficient, getting closer to Net Zero. By using clever tech like thermostats, heat pumps, solar panels and EV chargers, we’re making it cheaper and easier for our customers to reduce their carbon-footprint.
We have a great opportunity for a Head of Insurance Partnerships, who will be responsible for translating new insurance partnership opportunities into operationally ready, compliant and commercially effective live propositions. Working closely with Business Development, Change, Compliance and cross-functional teams, the role ensures the required systems, processes, capabilities and ways of working are identified, designed and embedded ahead of launch.
The role is accountable for the successful onboarding and launch of new insurance partnerships, ensuring contractual, commercial, operational, regulatory and customer requirements are translated into effective delivery. Once partnerships move into BAU, day-to-day management is delivered through the team, with this role providing leadership, oversight, guidance, support and escalation to ensure performance, payments, governance and risks remain well controlled.
The role is critical in converting insurance-related contractual and commercial commitments into practical delivery, ensuring legal, financial, customer, operational and FCA regulatory considerations are managed throughout the partnership lifecycle. A background in insurance partnerships is essential, alongside knowledge of operating in an FCA-regulated environment and the ability to ensure partnerships deliver the intended customer, commercial and strategic outcomes.
Here's what you'll be doing:
1. Insurance Partnership Launch & Operational Readiness
Lead the internal readiness activity required to launch new insurance partnerships safely, compliantly and effectively, ensuring operational, customer, technology, finance, reporting and compliance requirements are understood and embedded.
- Translate insurance partner requirements into clear delivery plans, operational processes and business change activity.
- Work with Product, Technology, Operations, Customer, Finance and Compliance teams to ensure systems, journeys, controls and reporting are ready ahead of go-live.
- Manage launch plans, critical paths, milestones, go-live criteria, risks and dependencies through to successful transition into BAU.
- Coordinate cross-functional delivery forums to resolve blockers and ensure partner commitments are converted into practical delivery.
2. FCA-Regulated Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Ensure insurance partnership activity operates within British Gas governance standards and applicable FCA-regulated requirements.
- Work closely with Compliance, Legal and Risk teams to ensure customer journeys, marketing activity, controls, complaints handling, reporting and operational processes are appropriately reviewed and governed.
- Maintain effective oversight of regulatory, conduct, customer and operational risks, ensuring issues are escalated and mitigated in a timely manner.
- Support partner assurance activity, including evidence gathering, control monitoring and third-party governance requirements.
3. Partnership Performance, Payments & Book Sustainability
Be accountable for the performance, financial oversight and value realisation framework for live insurance partnerships, ensuring the team has the right controls, reporting and guidance to manage partnership performance, calculate and validate performance-related payments, and escalate issues where commercial, customer, regulatory or book sustainability risks arise.
4. People Leadership & Team Management
Lead and manage the team responsible for day-to-day insurance partnership management, ensuring colleagues are clear on priorities, controls, performance expectations and escalation routes. The postholder will provide direction, coaching, oversight and support, while remaining accountable for onboarding quality, governance, performance outcomes, payment oversight and effective management of material risks or escalations.
- Set clear direction for the team, translating partnership priorities into deliverable plans, individual objectives and measurable outcomes.
- Coach and develop team members to build strong capability in partner management, operational delivery, performance analysis, governance and commercial oversight.
- Allocate work effectively across the team, ensuring capacity, priorities and risks are actively managed across live partnerships and new launches.
- Maintain strong team governance, ensuring outputs are accurate, timely and aligned to contractual, regulatory, customer and commercial requirements.
Here's what we're looking for:
- Essential background in insurance partnerships, ideally within retail, consumer, home services or affinity partnership environments.
- Strong knowledge of operating in an FCA-regulated environment, including governance, conduct risk, customer outcomes, complaints, controls and partner oversight.
- Proven experience onboarding new partnerships from commercial agreement through to operational launch, including requirements gathering, delivery planning, go-live readiness and transition into BAU.
- Strong numerical and analytical capability, with experience interpreting commercial models, performance-related payment mechanisms, revenue share arrangements, cost movements, margin impacts and complex contractual calculations.
- Experience overseeing performance management frameworks, KPIs, SLAs, reporting, payment validation, financial controls and issue escalation across live partnerships.
- Understanding of insurance book sustainability, including the ability to work with Partner, Pricing, Underwriting, Finance and Commercial teams as claims costs, pricing assumptions, performance trends and partner economics change.
- Experience leading, coaching and managing a team responsible for day-to-day partnership management, ensuring clear priorities, effective controls, accurate outputs and appropriate escalation.
- Excellent senior stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence internal teams, external partners and cross-functional delivery groups.
