Why join us

This is a brilliant opportunity to take the lead on insurance and risk financing for Argos, helping to protect our business against some of the biggest strategic, operational and emerging risks we face.

As our Insurance Manager, you’ll bring deep insurance expertise and commercial thinking to the role, leading the delivery of our insurance and risk financing strategy and helping us find the right balance between commercial insurance and self-insurance.

It’s a varied and influential role where you’ll work closely with senior leaders and teams across the business, alongside our brokers, insurers and claims handlers. You’ll be a trusted expert, bringing insight, guidance and constructive challenge to help us make informed decisions and manage risk effectively.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll take the lead on the delivery and governance of our insurance programmes, overseeing the placement and renewal of a broad portfolio including Property Damage and Business Interruption, Cyber, Directors & Officers, Crime, Marine and Transit, Construction, Environmental, Motor Fleet, Employee Benefits and Terrorism.

Keeping an eye on the changing risk landscape will be a key part of the role. You’ll help us understand emerging risks across areas such as cyber, climate, geopolitical, supply chain and technology, making sure we have appropriate insurance and mitigation in place.

You’ll manage key relationships with global brokers, insurers, claims handlers and third-party administrators, leading insurer negotiations and making sure we continue to get the right value, service and programme structure for the business.

You’ll also provide expert oversight of complex and significant claims, working with our partners to maximise insurance recoveries, understand root causes and identify opportunities to prevent future losses.

Most importantly, you’ll be a trusted adviser to leaders across the business, making complex insurance and risk matters easier to understand and using your technical expertise, commercial judgement and insight to influence decisions and drive continuous improvement.

What we’re looking for

You’ll be an experienced insurance professional who combines strong technical expertise with commercial thinking and the confidence to influence across the business

Essential criteria:

  • Significant experience within corporate insurance, broking, underwriting, claims or risk management
  • Strong experience of complex, multi-line insurance programmes, including placement, renewals, policy wordings, limits, deductibles, exclusions and insurer negotiations
  • Strong understanding of complex and catastrophic claims management, including coverage analysis, recoveries, root cause analysis and loss prevention
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to analyse risk, exposure and loss information and make evidence-based recommendations
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the confidence to explain complex insurance matters and provide constructive challenge to senior leaders

A relevant professional qualification, such as ACII or an equivalent legal, insurance or risk accreditation, would be highly desirable.

If you’re looking for an opportunity where you can use your insurance expertise to influence holistically, tackle complex risks and help shape how a major retail business protects itself, we’d love to hear from you.
