We are currently seeking an experienced Tax Manager to provide an in-depth knowledge and advice on tax matters in the CIS region (focused on Uzbekistan as well as other CIS countries within the portfolio) as well as manage local transfer pricing, local direct/indirect tax compliance, correspondence with the tax authorities, tax inquiries and audits, and other tax matters.
Location: Uzbekistan.
Responsibilities not limited to:
- Manage and supervise Masdar’s operational tax compliance obligations in Uzbekistan and other CIS countries within the portfolio in order to ensure compliance with regulations and standards at all times.
- Provide tax support to commercial and finance teams in relation to new projects at the development, construction and operational stage.
- Manage local transfer pricing (TP) matters, TP compliance and implementing TP policy in day-to-day business activities.
- Manage local tax compliance process and ensure timely filing of tax returns and payment of tax liabilities, compliance with internal policies, local tax legislation and reporting requirements.
- Develop, implement and maintain local tax policies and procedures, in order to ensure tax processes are in line with Masdar HQ policies, compliance and regulatory requirements, align with business requirements, and increase operational efficiency.
- Assist with FATCA/CRS matters, provide comments/ guidance on relevant forms in order to ensure alignment and compliance with all relevant laws and regulations/matters.
- Maintain functional excellence by working in alignment with HQ Group Finance as well as HQ Tax team.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor/master in taxation, finance or related field (Tax LLM preferred)
• CTA, ADIT, ACCA or qualified accountant (preferred)
Preferred Experience:
• 5-7 years of experience in Uzbek taxation (must have), transactions and tax structuring (preferred) or equivalent experience
• Transfer pricing knowledge (preferred)
• Tax compliance and tax provisioning experience (must have)
• Tax audit and tax controversy experience (must have)
• Experience gained through either employment with Big 4 accounting firms or law firms, Uzbek-based historic experience is required
• Experience in renewable energy industry (preferred)
• Advance level in English (written and spoken)
Job-Specific Skills:
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills leading to a consultative approach within a corporate
/ multifunctional environment
• Project management and implementation of complex tax structuring advice in conjunction with professional tax and legal advisers, and ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues from business teams.
• In-depth knowledge of taxation, accounting and IFRS standards
• Experience of interacting with tax authorities, assisting clients with tax audits, tax appeals, preparing supporting documentation, etc.
• Good knowledge of local tax legislation, accounting and IFRS standards, and principles of international taxation (incl. OECD MTC, UN MTC, BEPS/MLI) as well as transfer pricing (OECD TP Guidelines)
• Commercially aware and capable of explaining complex tax issues to stakeholders and recommended the preferred approach
• Good verbal and written communication and presentation skills, demonstrating the ability to communicate information and ideas clearly and confidently
• Experience in renewable energy industry and ability to provide tax advice accordingly
