Job Description
Team Summary:
The Visa Malaysia team brings together market, client and cross-functional expertise to grow digital payments and create meaningful value for consumers, clients and partners. The Marketing team connects business priorities, consumer insight and Visa capabilities to build high-impact programs that strengthen Visa’s relevance and accelerate growth in Malaysia.
What the Travel Marketing Specialist does at Visa:
The Marketing Manager for our business turns high-priority, high-frequency travel corridors, beginning with Singapore-Johor Bahru and extending to other key major corridors, into sustained cross-border revenue growth by orchestrating bilateral marketing plans, driving and designing a cohesive travel marketing campaign on bothM Malaysia side and send-market side, as well as building a compelling merchant and partner ecosystem including participation of our key issuers.
You will report to the Head of Country Marketing of Malaysia, and will be part of the Country Team to accelerate business growth, with a profit and loss (P&L) mindset focused on optimizing team performance and marketing investment. The role is expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, align priorities across both reporting lines, surface trade-offs early, and make clear recommendations when commercial and country marketing priorities compete.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own the Malaysia travel marketing strategy and annual activation roadmap, prioritizing corridors with the strongest consumer, client and commercial opportunity.
- Build the growth plan for the Singapore-Johor Bahru corridor and other agreed priority corridors, defining target travellers, use cases, propositions, partner roles, activation moments and measurable outcomes.
- Lead bilateral planning and execution with relevant Visa market teams, aligning market priorities, funding, capabilities, timelines and governance across both sides of each corridor.
- Develop the end-to-end traveller proposition across inspiration, planning, booking, arrival, in-destination spend and repeat travel, identifying where Visa can remove friction and add differentiated value.
- Build and activate the supporting merchant ecosystem in priority destinations by partnering with acquiring, merchant sales, product and external partners to strengthen acceptance, offers, experiences and visibility.
- Create integrated marketing programs that connect Visa brand, client platforms, merchant partnerships, destination assets, content, media and on-ground activation to drive preference and usage.
- Partner with issuers and other clients to translate corridor opportunities into joint business and marketing plans, including clear value propositions, activation requirements and performance measures. This includes driving incremental Marketing Services revenue whenever appropriate.
- Use consumer, payment and market insights to identify growth pools, diagnose barriers, sharpen targeting and optimize programs. Establish a regular corridor performance view and convert findings into actions.
- Orchestrate a broad stakeholder network across Country Marketing, Sales, Product, Merchant Sales & Acquiring, Government Engagement, Visa Consulting & Analytics, Marketing Services, regional teams, agencies and external travel partners.
- Own end-to-end program delivery, including business case development, briefing, agency and partner management, budget stewardship, risk and compliance processes, implementation quality and post-campaign evaluation.
- Define and track a balanced scorecard for each corridor, using relevant business and marketing indicators such as payment volume, active credentials, spend and transaction growth, merchant participation, offer engagement and campaign effectiveness.
- Contribute travel expertise to the broader Malaysia country marketing agenda and codify repeatable playbooks that can be scaled to additional corridors or markets. Once successful, drive cross-market activation across Southeast Asia.
Why this is important to Visa:
Travel is a strategically important cross-border growth opportunity for Visa. Realizing the opportunity requires more than a campaign: it demands sustained coordination across origin and destination markets, a strong network of clients and merchants, and a traveller proposition that links inspiration to payment usage. This role provides the dedicated expertise and ownership needed to turn priority corridors into repeatable, measurable growth platforms.
Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.
Qualifications
What you will need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Travel and Tourism, Economics or a related discipline.
- Minimum 8-10 years of relevant experience in travel, tourism, payments, consumer marketing, partnerships, destination marketing, loyalty or a related sector. Experience spanning more than one of these areas is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build growth strategies and translate them into executable, multi-partner programs with clear commercial and marketing outcomes.
- Strong understanding of the traveller journey and the travel ecosystem, including issuers, acquirers, merchants, airlines, hotels, online travel platforms, tourism bodies, attractions and mobility partners.
- Experience leading complex cross-market or cross-functional initiatives where success depends on influence, alignment and disciplined governance rather than direct authority.
- Commercial and analytical mindset, with the ability to use consumer, market and payment insights to prioritize opportunities, build business cases and evaluate performance.
- Strong integrated marketing capability across proposition development, partnerships, content, media, digital and experiential activation.
- Excellent project and budget management, with consistent attention to execution quality, controls, risk and compliance.
- Clear, persuasive communication and presentation skills, including the ability to make recommendations to senior stakeholders and resolve competing priorities.
- High ownership, curiosity and comfort operating independently in a fast-paced, matrixed environment.
