Johnson & Johnson MedTech is recruiting for a Medical Director, Aesthetics & Reconstruction to provide medical and scientific leadership supporting our Aesthetics & Reconstruction portfolio. While it is possible for this role to be remote based, the preferred locations for this role are Irvine, CA and Raritan, NJ. Candidates who with the ability to be based at one of previously mentioned locations will be preferentially considered.

The Medical Director will serve as a senior physician leader within Scientific Affairs and as a key medical representative of the organization to the plastic surgery community. This individual will provide strategic medical leadership across Medical Affairs, evidence generation, clinical development, physician education, and external scientific engagement.
The successful candidate will be a board-certified plastic surgeon with significant experience in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery, strong clinical and scientific credibility, and a demonstrated ability to develop productive relationships with leading surgeons, investigators, and professional societies.
Key Responsibilities
Medical and Scientific Leadership
- Serve as the senior medical subject-matter expert for aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery.
- Provide medical and scientific leadership for breast implants, tissue expanders, and related aesthetic and reconstructive technologies.
- Provide strategic medical input into portfolio strategy, product development, lifecycle management, clinical development, regulatory strategy, and evidence generation.
- Evaluate emerging clinical science, surgical techniques, technologies, and changes in clinical practice and translate these developments into actionable medical strategy.
- Provide balanced, evidence-based medical guidance regarding product safety, clinical performance, benefits, risks, and appropriate use.
External Scientific Engagement
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with national and international key opinion leaders (KOLs), investigators, academic centers, and other external experts.
- Maintain a highly visible presence within the plastic surgery community through regular field engagement with surgeons and healthcare professionals.
- Represent Johnson & Johnson MedTech at major national and international scientific congresses, professional society meetings, and other medical forums.
- Develop strategic relationships with relevant professional societies and participate in appropriate scientific and educational initiatives.
- Lead and participate in advisory boards, investigator meetings, KOL engagements, scientific exchanges, and physician education activities.
- Engage physicians in credible scientific discussions, including complex clinical questions and challenging scientific or product-related issues.
- Gather meaningful medical insights from external experts and ensure those insights are communicated to appropriate internal stakeholders and incorporated into medical strategy.
Evidence Generation and Clinical Strategy
- Partner with Clinical Operations and Evidence Generation to establish evidence priorities addressing important clinical, regulatory, and scientific questions.
- Provide physician leadership in the development of clinical protocols, study concepts, research questions, endpoints, and analysis strategies.
- Support company-sponsored clinical studies, investigator-initiated research, registries, and real-world evidence programs.
- Identify evidence gaps and opportunities to strengthen the clinical evidence supporting the Aesthetics & Reconstruction portfolio.
- Actively participate in the development of peer-reviewed publications, abstracts, scientific presentations, and congress communications.
- Support generation and interpretation of long-term safety, effectiveness, patient-reported outcome, and real-world evidence.
Medical Education and Scientific Communication
- Provide medical leadership for physician education and scientific exchange.
- Identify unmet educational needs within the plastic surgery community.
- Partner with Medical Education and other stakeholders to develop scientifically rigorous educational programs.
- Participate in scientific symposia, educational programs, congress activities, and peer-to-peer physician engagement.
- Ensure medical and scientific communications are accurate, balanced, evidence-based, and consistent with applicable regulatory and healthcare compliance requirements.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Serve as a senior medical partner to Medical Affairs, Clinical Operations, Evidence Generation, Regulatory Affairs, R&D, Quality, Safety, Marketing, and other functions.
- Bring the voice of the surgeon and patient into strategic and clinical decision-making.
- Provide medical assessment of emerging technologies, competitive developments, clinical trends, and unmet clinical needs.
- Support evaluation of medical and scientific issues related to product safety and clinical performance.
- Communicate complex medical and scientific information effectively to senior leadership and diverse cross-functional audiences.
- Maintain appropriate Medical Affairs independence, scientific integrity, and patient-centered decision-making.
Leadership Expectations
The Medical Director will be expected to be an externally visible physician leader who actively represents Johnson & Johnson MedTech within the plastic surgery community.
Success in this position requires a physician who combines strong clinical credibility with strategic thinking, scientific rigor, collaboration, and executive presence. The Medical Director will proactively engage KOLs and professional societies, maintain a meaningful presence in the field, contribute directly to evidence-generation strategy, and translate external medical insights into actions that advance scientific strategy and patient care.
The individual must be equally comfortable engaging a leading plastic surgeon in a complex scientific discussion, contributing to clinical and regulatory strategy, reviewing emerging evidence, and communicating medical priorities to senior business leadership.
Qualifications
- MD or DO degree is required.
- Completion of accredited plastic surgery training is required.
- Current board certification in Plastic Surgery is required.
- Significant clinical experience in aesthetic and reconstructive breast surgery is required.
- Demonstrated expertise in breast implants, breast reconstruction, aesthetic breast surgery, and contemporary surgical techniques is required.
- Strong understanding of evidence-based medicine, clinical research methodology, and interpretation of clinical data is required.
- Demonstrated ability to establish credibility and develop relationships with senior physicians and recognized clinical experts is essential.
- Excellent scientific communication, presentation, interpersonal, and leadership skills are vitally necessary.
- Ability to work effectively in a highly matrixed, cross-functional global organization is expected.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required for KOL engagement, customer interactions, professional society activities, advisory boards, and scientific congresses is required.

- 10 or more years of clinical and/or relevant industry experience following completion of medical training is preferred.
- Recognized standing within the plastic surgery community is preferred.
- Established relationships with national and international plastic surgery KOLs is an asset.
- Leadership, committee, or active participation within relevant professional societies is highly beneficial.
- Clinical research experience involving aesthetic or reconstructive surgery is preferred.
- Experience as an investigator in medical device clinical studies is an asset.
- Peer-reviewed publication and scientific presentation experience is an asset.
- Previous experience in Medical Affairs, clinical development, or the medical device industry is beneficial.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $199,000 - $343,275.
