Originator – Business Development & Commercial

ENGIE is accelerating the energy transition across the world. In India, our Supply & Energy Management team is building the commercial bridge between renewable energy assets and the businesses that need them. We are looking for a driven originator to grow our customer base and shape the future of clean energy procurement.

This is a role for someone who thrives on opening doors, building trust, and closing deals. You will work at the centre of a fast-moving, purpose-driven business — helping large commercial and industrial customers access renewable energy solutions that are both practical and sustainable.

About Supply & Energy Management

ENGIE's Supply & Energy Management (S&EM) business in India acts as the market-facing interface between energy assets, power markets, and corporate customers. S&EM intends to support Indian businesses in managing energy procurement and decarbonization through tailored solutions, while helping optimize and commercialize renewable assets.

Its activities include client origination, market access, physical and virtual PPA structuring, power supply solutions, green attributes such as RECs and I-RECs, portfolio and asset optimization, and management of price, volume, and profile risks. The team works closely with ENGIE's renewable business and regional trading platform to translate customer requirements into practical, commercially viable energy solutions.

Purpose of the Role

The role is responsible for originating, developing, and converting new customer opportunities for ENGIE's upcoming Renewable energy assets in India. The incumbent will focus on acquiring new commercial and industrial customers, developing strategic relationships with key decision-makers, and expanding ENGIE's market presence across Western and Southern India.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, develop, and secure new commercial opportunities with large commercial and industrial customers, with priority coverage across Western and Southern India.
  • Build and manage a qualified pipeline in sectors such as data centers, manufacturing, metals, cement, chemicals and fertilisers, automotive, FMCG, electronics, and pharmaceuticals.
  • Develop relationships with CXOs, Procurement Heads, Energy Heads, Sustainability Leaders, and Plant Management teams.
  • Create and execute territory-specific business development plans and systematic account-entry strategies.
  • Lead the end-to-end sales cycle, including lead generation, initial qualification, solution discussions, proposal development, commercial negotiations, and contract closure.
  • Contribute to agreed revenue, margin, contracted volume, and new-customer acquisition objectives.
  • Work with Commercial, Trading, Asset Development, Legal, Risk, Finance, KYC, and Back Office teams to structure executable customer solutions.
  • Develop market intelligence on customer demand, competitor activity, regulations, and emerging energy procurement trends.
  • Represent ENGIE at relevant industry forums, conferences, customer events, and association platforms.
  • Build relationships with industry associations to strengthen market access and lead generation.
  • Maintain accurate opportunity, activity, and conversion visibility in the designated CRM system.
  • Identify cross-selling and account-expansion opportunities while supporting long-term customer satisfaction and retention.

Candidate Profile

  • 5-8 years of experience in business development, B2B sales, client origination, key account management, or a commercial role.
  • Demonstrated track record of generating new business opportunities and converting prospects into customers.
  • Prior experience in power, renewable energy, energy services, Power Trading, or a related sector is preferred.
  • Existing relationships with large commercial and industrial energy consumers will be a strong advantage.
  • Prior experience and an established client network in Western India and/or Southern India will be highly valued.
  • Experience managing the complete sales lifecycle, from market mapping and lead generation through negotiations and contract execution.
  • Graduate degree in Engineering, Business, Economics, Finance, or a related field. A postgraduate qualification is desirable.

Core Competencies

  • Hunter mindset with the ability to open doors and independently create opportunities.
  • Strong commercial acumen, customer orientation, and negotiation capability.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and senior-stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to understand customer requirements and translate them into practical, tailored solutions.
  • Entrepreneurial, accountable, disciplined, and comfortable working in a matrix organisation.
  • Working knowledge of the Indian power and renewable-energy market is preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM-based opportunity management.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across assigned regions.
