Position Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the Lifecycle Engineering strategy of Rolls-Royce Naval products as a Powerplant Engineer - Naval Gas Turbines. This role will provide world-class technical support for in-service/delivered products and influence maturity throughout the product life cycle to meet customer and business needs, ensuring Design Intent is met.

This role helps to ensure the safe, reliable and cost-effective product attributes are defined and maintained.

 

What you will be doing

  • Manage any issues that affect the Maturity, Lifecycle Cost, Reliability and Maintainability of the fleet/s. Identify and lead reliability improvement opportunities/initiatives at a fleet wide level through joint governance with customer/s. Support the generation of the Service Operation Validation Strategy.
  • Predict future safety and reliability performance based on failure rates, adopting statistical techniques to support Numerical Risk Assessment, Parametric Distribution and fly forward analysis. Set and monitor reliability targets based on all available data- work with the customer to gain additional data as needed.
  • Gather in-service data from a variety of sources including but not limited to EHM, Log books, customer OPDEF reports and carry out continuous improvement by identifying Best Practice and Learning from Experience activities, feeding back into Naval Lifecycle and product design teams.
  • Ensure compliance with requirements specified by regulatory authorities and to adhere to technical and business requirements of internal & external stakeholders. Where delegated, act as the Technical Authority providing assurance on build, commissioning and maintenance activities.

Position qualifications

  • Engineering or Numerical degree (or equivalent with experience)
  • Knowledge of components/ systems functionality and numerical methods
  • Experience of working on complex tasks that are novel and ambiguous
  • Familiarity of the in-service operation environment, including regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Experience in troubleshooting and/or problem resolution
  • Experience in support/lead cross-functional teams e.g. specialists, suppliers, customers, partners
  • Have proven ability to exercise engineering judgement to identify reliability issues and trends, root cause and develop costed solutions
  • Be commercially astute, demonstrating a knowledge of Naval contract constructs and opportunities for improvement

For this role an individual must hold a Security Check clearance. We will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t already have it. Due to the nature of work we conduct, we can only progress applications from individuals who are a UK national or, in MoD approved cases, a dual national.


This Role is based at Portsmouth Naval base with occasional travel to Bristol.
